I had a pioneer 300watt 2 channel amp running 2 pioneer 6x9 speakers with no problems. I have recently changed the 300watt amp for a 800watt 4 channel amp to the same speakers and now have alternator whine. I went to Jaycar purchased inline noise filter and RCA noise filter and an alternator suppressor and the noise is still there. Took that back and bought new RCA wires and earth cable and still no change. Swapped back to 300watt amp and the noise is still there. Now happens with any amp used. What can i do to stop it?? Many thanks in advance.

dont rule out the fact ur alt may be causing the noise from the hard amps it would have had to be producing. so possible one of the diodes has burnt out.

just out of curiousity, you didnt have your system running while you were messing around with the amps (prior to the noise problem starting?)
i had to cure the same problem recently, had supressors on alternator and coil, but nothing except an RCA earth link fixed the problem before you do it though, check and see if the outer contact on the RCA's on the back of your HU and see if they've still got a solid link to the chassis of your HU, if its an open circuit, your RCA earths are blown

how close are your positive power cables running next to your RCA leads?
i had a USAudio amp with no noise, than i changed it to a Jaycar and had heaps of noise. moved the power cables away from the RCA's and all was fixed.
