just recently, all of a sudden my amop has decided to pick up all sorts of ambient noise.. ie alternator, thermo fans, even the headunit changing tracks and if you listen closely you can hear the cd spinning (through the speakers)....
i have tried different rca cables, running them different ways etc, i have checked all HU connections and amp connections, i have plugged an ipod into my amp with the engine running and there is no noise, the headunit doesnt play noise through the speakers that are not amped... i have also replaced the noise suppressors on the alternator and coil.... anyone have any ideas?? the rca's do run close to the power however they always have, and it never caused a problem before.. the only thing that changed was i borrowed the amps power supply to power a relay for my fuel door release.. couldnt see this being the issue, i did disconnect it and this also did nothing... any ideas much appreciated... cheers mitch

yeh i have considered this option, however there is 2 available, one for the rca lines and one for the power.. not sure which would work.. and it still comes down to the fact that it never used to do it before and now it is, even tho nothing has changed
cheers for the input -mitch

check your RCA leads first, is it one or all channels? does it do it with the RCA leads unplugged from the amp, if it stops then it may be the leads or a problem in the HU.

have tried different rcas (very good quality ones).. they have no effect,, it does it with the leads plugged in,, stops when they are unplugged, happens on both channels

Are you running ANY sort of 12V adapter from your Cigarette Lighter? I know it's a far fetch, but one car I was playing with once put all kinds of noise through the amp and it went away when this was unplugged?
Just a thought |

problem with the amps or they are close to something
that is making a frequency is it mounted very close to speakers everything in the car that uses power creates a frequency and if it close to something it will magnify it

-mitch So if it stops when you unplug them its not the amp. Chasing noises is just a matter of one by one, elliminating each source until you find it. You now know its not the amp, so move down the chain... whats befor the amp? Processor or HU? Did you try plugging your ipod directly into the amp? If that works without any noises ( engin on ) then get some female to female conectors and plug it into the end of the main RCA cable... any noises and you know its the cable... |

ive chased all the way up the cahin now.. have tried everything i can think of,,, its definately not the amp, nor is it the cables.. i tried running new power for the hu straight from the battery.. no avail, tried running power from an external battery, still noise... the only logical thing i can find is that it is an internal fault in the HU,, its a pioneer about 2yrs old.. must say im disappointed.. had better plans for that money....
i also tried a inline (rca line) noise suppressor which worked... it eliminated the noise,, but goddamn did it sound like sh!t clipped the signal sumthing terrible so i took it back... anyone got an mp3 HU for sale? prefably one with pre outs????? cheers for the ideas -mitch

Mate had the same thing (hes actually on this forum - Sipheren), told him to check the grounds.
He re-did that and the noises went away. So just make sure you have a good connection etc... |

I have an MP3 head deck for sale.. it'll cost you one NOS kit. lol.
Just thought Id describe the noise with the suppressor... you ever played with reverb on your sound card and s**t? well... try the HALL CONCERT effect.. and times by ten. Its absolutely shocking. (This is coming from a guy who wears Windows XP shirts) Also, anyone know noise suppressors which don't affect tht sound quality? Cheers

I had that once, confused and irritated the crap out of me, turned out it was only because the cd was dodgy and all i had to do was burn another. No idea why that is, but it only ever happened with that cd.
