I am thinking of getting an Amp for my AU and, to that end I have been perusing Ebay and came across this little gem for $49.90. What, if any, opinions are there about this item? I am only wanting to get a little more response from what I already have and not something that will make the car move under the power of vibration.

Not worth it mate.
Most of the eBay amps are either unnamed Chinese Junk or Chinese knock offs with s**t quality and s**t warranty. Either Ryda.com or even the Fusion range at Supercheap will be better buying.

Yeah I saw these cheapies a while ago and did a bit of a google search and most people have said what Matt's stated.
Basically like many things you get what you pay for with these.

Why not go second hand in good condition off ebay George? You would be able to pick up a decent one normally for the price this guy wants for that door stop pictured. Also, dont forget Jaycar, there response amps are bullet proof and generally not bad priced.

Same thing would go for the amps I reckon, but my 'mate' bought a $50 el cheapo head unit for his missus' Honda, and got me to install it. Disconnected the battery, used heat shrink, every precaution there is to make sure it was a clean install, but when it was all done, the head unit would light up and not function.
He decided not to pay me for the work, and instead paid some bloke from JB $80 to do what I had already done. He tore it apart and found there was a track that had 'burnt out'. He then blamed it on the way I installed it (which is total crap because the battery wasn't connected, + it had in-line fuses on the loom. So he ended up paying $130 anyway, when I had found him $90 Pioneer units which wouldn't have been a load of crap. The Asian crap isn't worth the hassle IMO.

Depending on the power output of each speaker you have, you will need an amp that powers slightly higher than the maximum speaker output, so say if your speakers run 50 watt you would be best to get an amp that runs higher rather than lower, say 60w. What this does is stop the amp from " clipping" at high volume, causing the amp and speakers to s**t themselves. If your running stock speakers in the girl, a decent head unit and amp wil surprise you in power and clarity response. could find a 4ch amp with 2 bridgable channels
power the rear speakers with 2 channels, and bridge the other 2 channels for a free air 8" sub in the parcel shelf |

No worries mate. If I can help a Legend like yourself out, I dont mind. Sorry I stopped short of a good look, Im on 3g wireless right now and am pushing to get 56k, so the pictures on ebay take a day to load lol.
Tell you honestly, I bought a few Sony things over the past few years. They are no way known Audiophile quality but a great medium for someone who wants reliability, a decent price and is not overly worried about having the Holy Grail of sound. What I meant by "clipping" is kind of like having your car on redline constantly. An amp will only produce what it can produce and if you push it to its maximum , just like an engine something will give. Also what will happen normally is the frequency f**k up and thats what causes damage to the speakers. I think from memory the Sony one is 50w rms per channel, mate thats more than enough sound in a metal speaker box with wheels unless your going to go the whole hog. Honest question mate, have you installed an amp before? |

No, not an Amp but NUMEROUS CD players and Radios since 1970.
When I do wiring I NEVER use scotchlocks or anything like that, I use plugs and proper terminals soldered. My Speakers are standard premium BA front ones and the rears and 6.5" rounds @ 30watts RMS. Thanks for the advice

I managed to do it myself and I've never done anything like that before lol  Was good to learn by just giving it a crack myself!
