Hi guys,
I know nothing about this sort of caper, I am just trying to source parts for my auto elec to install for me. At the moment I have a 4 channel amp doing a terrible job of running 4 speakers and a sub (s**t idea). I am looking at purchasing a separate 2 channel amp for my sub and having the 4 channel running my speakers. Will the 2nd amp require another amp wiring kit, or can I just use a distribution block? Distribution block with uprated wiring and fuse, as in next size up. Assuming you have 8ga now, go to 4ga.
Also, a mono block class D Amp to run the sub would be a better idea as they run cooler and use less power than an equivalent class A/B (full range). |

Thanks for the reply.
You said about a mono instead of a 2ch? I read online that it is better the bridge a 2ch rather than using a mono for a 4 ohms sub?

I also notice that all of the distribution blocks on ebay are different.
If I change to 4 gauge wiring do I still use 4 gauge from the block to the amps?

depends on the current requirements for each amp and the size of the cable you're currently running...

+1 on what evxr6 said. if you have 8guage power cable upgrade to 4gauge..run that into a dist block with 2 8guage cable coming out of it..try and use 4guage cable as earth from the amps too..it's a good idea to have the earth cable the same as the power. and you will be much better of with a mono block amp rather then a 2 channel amp. my old sub was a dual 2ohm sub..and i had it wired up into 4ohm and it sounded great, granted it was getting 500wrms from a mono block.
i traided my old sound system for a motor and gearbox and now im using a boss 4 ohm sub and it sounds like crap on a 2channel amp |

Okay, this is all of the information that I know about what is in the car.

I would like to swap the fusion sub for this one: http://au.kenwood.com/Car_Entertainment ... /KFC-W3013 and possibly run it off this amp: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/350669069991 ... 1423.l2649 . Hopefully some of this is useful.

It's more than a good idea to have an earth the same size, if not bigger than the supply, what goes in has to have the potential to come out. An earth smaller than supply is asking for an unwanted welding job in the back of the car.
The distribution block is the chosen method because you can only hang so much off the battery terminal(s). It's simple maths, only reversed: one 4guage = two 8guages (very basically). If that makes any sense Though as mentioned it all depends on the demand = size & efficiency of amps.

the 4 channel amp and speakers are a good match. how ever the monoblock amps you have shown are a waist of money. they are lying about there RMS output. 700Wrms out put with 1 30amp fuse? thats s**t. my last monoblock was 500Wrms @4ohm and it had 3 75amp fuses :/
your best bet is to pop into your local audio dealer and have a chat to them. of course they will try and rip you off but let us know what they wana sell you and we can tell you if it's worth it or not i would recomend this amp for the kenwood sub http://www.fusionelectronics.com/car/pr ... -amplifier im only saying fusion because thats all iv delt with my last system had the 15" fusion powerplant sub and this amp http://www.fusionelectronics.com/car/pr ... -Amplifier and it sounded amazing |

oh and 4guage from the battery into a dist block then 2 8guage into the amps will be fine. i had 4guage going to a a 4gugae splitter, one 4guage went to my monoblock and the other 4guage went into a 8guage dist block, then 2 8guage into 2 fusion 2 channel amps for my speakers and never had a issue, my system was capable of drawing near 300amps. and the way i had it set up was fine

so you were effectively running one already overloaded 4 guage wire & two 8's split from one 4ga feeding from the battery? sounds classy. 4 guage wire is usually rated at 150amps. You should have been running 2 or 0 from the battery. Even an amp that apparently draws up to 235 requires 2ga bare minimum.
Even then you're asking alot running straight from a single battery... good guide here: {DESCRIPTION}

it wasnt ideal but it worked, i had the gain on the 2 8guage amps set pretty low to help out with voltage drop and the gain on the mono was set to about 50%..i was in the process of saving for 0guage but traided my system for the new motor.
my headlights and cluster lights would dimm very noticably when playing music lol. |
