I have an EF1 XR6 wagon with the mid-range factory head unit (with the CD button). I want to put a CD stacker under the passenger seat, and am looking at the factory stacker out of an AU (see image attached). It comes with the AU cable. Will it plug straight in and work? If not, what kind of stacker should I be looking for to work with my stock head unit? Thanks.

nope will not work. AU stacker had a different plug to back of H/U compared to EF/L h/u's.
You need to look for a 6 stacker out of an EF or EL only. not the premo 10 stacker, the H/U can't control it. ED has a different stacker again.

Thanks for the quick and knowledgeble response. Is there an adaptor cable available? Or could I have the AU cable re-plugged at reasonable cost to work with my EF H/U?

yeah, i wanted to do the opposite in my old au, asked so many people and was told no and why, and as previous posts say, its totally different wiring, no adaptors available because of this, best bet is to get an fm modulated stacker like i did, i picked up a nice pioneer 6 stacker for $400 a few yrs ago. did the trick great

That looks to be the same stacker used in the late EL's, which I have in my car.
And this is the stacker you need as any of the previous model stackers are too large to fit under the seat. You can also get a bracket from Ford specially made for these stackers that bolts directly to the seat base. If you want to use that stacker it might be worthwhile seeing the price of a cable from Ford for the late EL stacker and see if its worth it. Unless of course Ford pricks changed the stacker pinouts between EL and AU. |
