Hello,
I have seen plenty of advice and technical documents on converting an AU Falcon from manual to electric radio antenna. What I would like to know is how I can go from electric to manual. Yes, your eyes are not deceiving you; I would like to go to a manual setup. Reason for this? The electric aerial automatically extends all the way up, and after time, the aerial starts to bend due to wind force/pressure, and I would like to convert it to a manual setup, so I can just extend the aerial to the length I want. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Holocaust

Ah the bueaty of having a fairmont, but seriously just change the antenna I don't think it should matter, if you just put a manual one in.
secondly are you sure the risk of some f**k breaking it off well parked wont be more of a concern than the wind.

Why dont you work out how to fit a fairmont adjustable switch to the aerial instead. That way you can put it to the height YOU want, AND it retracts when the car is off. Best of both worlds really.

I was so sick of the flag pole antenna on my car that i ended up replacing my electrical aerial with a windscreen aerial and I bogged up the hole left from the external aerial. Looks way better and no more cuckatoos are hitting my aerial anymore Anyway, i know you seem persistent about a manual antenna but i do recall someone doing a write up on an adjustable aerial for the AU on this forum ages ago where you can control the height of the standard electrical aerial from inside of the car. It's worth a look, try the search function.

You could wire up a switch to control the height.
If its bending in the wind though, just replace it, that isn't normal. Wouldn't worry about it. If you really want to put a manual one in, it will swap straight in, Same aerial without the electrical bit on the bottom, and obviously only the aerial lead to plug in. Just buy an Aerpro AU falcon manual one. |
