Hey i posted a thread last week on upgrading the sound in my AU III wagon.

Thanks for the tips,
I've taken on board what people have told me.

I'm wondering if a simple set of 2way JL 5x7 speakers for the front will do the job, for the time being, till i can later get a amplifier.

Or should i go the route of the 3way slits in the front, and cut holes in the trim to put the tweeters?

I want to do it step by step, so the speakers i get now, will need to be ok for now, and kick a*** when the amp comes.

Any recomendations on speakers? Personally i'd perfer to stear clear of the tweeters, i know the sound is better, but i'd like to keep the car looking as stock as i can

Thanks for your help.

I would steer clear of 3 way splits unless you have a wad of cash (plus you will need an amp to play any decent ones properly).

In my car I have hertz 6.5in two way splits that I got to fit in the standard 5x7 position in the door. It was a bit tight but with some thin mdf it isn't too hard to get the tweeter and driver mounted under the door skin/grille. I think something along these lines would be your best option for keeping it stock looking whilst getting better sound.

3 way splits under 500 bucks arnt worth it imo. Just get 6.5 inch splits as skidder said.
You can get mounting plates that fit right there from DNA Audio.

Depending on your budget i would recommend getting components, or at minimum a set of 2 ways with a soft 1" tweeter mounted, not the crap they put in "5 way ZOMG!!" speakers.
