I've been trying to figure out whats in the covered box section in the back of the floor of my uterus for quite some time now. Looking for somewhere to mount a sub or two without it being too much of a hindrance (I actually use my ute for work so subs behind seats are out of the question)
I came to the conclusion that new panels in the side where existing speakers are & dynamatting the body panels behind was my best option, nice space I just don't like mounting subs that close to stationary glass. The other day I was underneath when I noticed a few grommets lined up with the 'empty space' I was referring to behind the seats. I popped them off and low and behold, empty space. I'm guessing the panel is there for structual support as the bodies obviously missing half the strength of a sedan So my next question is: has anyone cut speakers into this space ? Quite obviously I don't need two 15's in a ute, I'm just after a bit more bass from the standard treble master 6 speaker setup. Which poses another question, does ford use a crossover for the factory tweeters ?

Apparently the Brute Ute's cut away some of that section and put their battery in there.
I'd like to cut it out but dont really want to write the car off in the process. I guess you could always cover up 2 sub holes easy enough though. |

Thats the plan Dan Metal to me is like a canvas for an artist
Thats intresting about the brute utes. My personal opinion is it wouldn't make ten fifths of phark all difference to the over-all structual integrity. Realistically it's the corners of the box section that give it strength, just try telling that to an engineer, you'll need a box of band-aids for your forehead. I love the way I jack my ute up on one corner and the doors don't work the same lol frikin engineers......
