A friend of mine has brought a AU fairmont...wishes to up grade the sound system..head unit/amps/speakers/subby etc...he's concerned about the odd size of the standard speakers which look like sub 6x9 sizes,he wishes to upgrade without any cutting and general butchering of the cars metal.
Ant help would be appreciated greatly

Hello & Welcome,
The front door panel & rear parcel shelf speakers in the AU's are actually 5x7 and yes i agree.. they are odd sizes!
But never-the-less... if yur mate wants to upgrade his system without cutting, which alot of ppl want to do to keep it neat... there are definetly heaps of aftermarket gear out there. Bostons make a brilliant 5x7 speaker.. pricy tho! Just ask a lot of the BA boys, they run same stock speaker sizing.
Bostons: $500.00ish
AudioBahn: $150.00 - $200.00
Carlos,

There is also a fairly decent JBL 5x7" speaker. I bought a set of these for an AU. They cost me about $150. I think that I got them from Strathfield Car Radios. They Don't sound too bad.

JBLs are a fairly decent brand.

Strathfield on the other hand are a bunch of C**k.

I had three of their 'experts' trying to tell me that my amp didn't exist.
I had to walk them out to my car and show them it.

Agreed on both parts (from my own experiences).

PS 6" splits w/mdf adaptor are much better sounding speakers than 5x7's

Should only take 30-45min per door to instal.
