I need to get the stock ford headunit out that came with my 2001 AU Falcon Forte.

It doesnt read CD's and just spits them out, i am going to replace it with a aftermarket single DIN unit.

Thanks.

search for a post regarding making your own 'ford special service tool' or buy a manual for the car. Some people seem to think it's impossible and take it to a mobile audio dealer, for little cost.

I used 2.4mm welding filler wire it worked well. However it's always tricky.

Hey mate i have exact same car. Its a b**ch to get out but heres what i did......

1. Get 2 metal coat hangers and cut them both at the corners so u have 2 long peices of metal.
2. Bend the metal into "U" shapes. (see pic below)
3. Insert one U shape into the two holes on the right and the other into the two holes on the left. Push them in quite far because there is a bracket thing that latches onto the coat hangers. You may have to wriggle them arround a bit to get them to stick.
4. Then pull the deck straight out towards you. Just make sure if you have auto to put it in 1st so the stick is outa the way.
5. Pull out all the wires and your done.

Be careful when doing this because occasionally the tab you are pressing with the keys comes off and then you have no way to get the deck out that isn't destructive.

When I was in the industry, we had a few AU's come in with dodgy changer decks that they had tried to get out themselves.
If they broke the tabs, the only way to get it out was to literally rip the face off the factory deck to get to the locks that way.

Exactly what Frankieh said ^^^^

Best to buy the proper removal tools and then keep them in your toolbox for another day.
The AU Headunit is a bugger to get out if the tabs are damaged
