Audio Test & Tune Day - SPL & SQ
Details Date: Sunday December 4th Location: Undecided Time: 5pm - SQ and SPL Equipment Brand New Termlab Dual Sensor System with RTA analysis software Termlab is the official meter for SPL measurements worldwide including Australia so whatever reading you get here is an accurate reflection of what you would get at a fully sanctioned event. The meter is fully calibrated and will accurately measure up to 180db As it’s a dual meter I can have 2 people running at the same time The RTA (Real Time Analyiser) is used for measuring frequency analysis which is handy in every system especially those interested in accurate SQ. it is able to show up to 300 frequency bands down to a very sensitive level so it is very handy. SPL 2 cars at a time pull up and have a meter set-up in their car. I have bass discs you can borrow if necessary with music + frequency tones from 20htz – 80htz. Each car can have as many people working on it as you like and you will have 10min with unlimited use of the meter so you can try different tracks and other changes to amps etc… Then you go away and make any other changes you wish and have a second 10min session with the meter again around 1hr later. This gives you time to make more substantial changes (i.e. you may change subs, amp’s or box ports etc…) or simply re-charge your batteries and go again. It is not a competition yet, just a test and tune with the view to perhaps have a comp in a couple of months time. So there is no prize proposed. SQ For the SQ it would be single car at a time with the RTA and myself assisting in the tuning, this will be me in the car with you (if desired) helping you get the most from your system. We will use the RTA and work on getting a nice smooth frequency response and also look at anything else you would like me to consider about the system (speaker placement, imaging, staging etc…). Alternatively you can simply use the meter yourself without me getting in the way if you wish. 20min block of time per person, of course you can book 2 spots if you have a heap of tuning you wish to carry out. COSTS SPL unlimited runs = $10 SQ 1 x 20min session with myself providing assistance = $15 [i]There is a thread in the QLD events section.

Hi Pyroay
I'd definately be interested in the SQ tuning for sure. I was hoping to see you at the last CAASQ event at Stylyn the other week .... so something like this would great to get some advise and opinions from yourself .... and also to see and hear your car. The format you have suggested sounds fine and I don't think you would get too many complaints about the cost either .... small price to pay for the enjoyment to be had Cheers, Alan.

The reason i was not at the Stylin event is my system is not running. I am finishing sub box and battery mounting and have plenty of tunning to do after chaning subs so i am hoping to have it all runing for that day.
Did you enter the event at Stylin?

Hey Pyroay .... Bummer that you couldn't make it .... I was really looking forward to seeing your EL and listening to what a championship winning setup sounds like. I'm keen to get a few idea's for my car seeing that they are both EF/EL Falcons Yeah I did enter .... it was my first ever competition .... didn't really know anyone apart from Keith (Roughcactus) and didn't know what to expect so I was a bit apprehensive about it. It turned out to be a great day though .... Everyone was really friendly and it was good to be able to put a few faces to the names from the forums. I also had a bit of help tuning my system by Pulse-R .... who got it sounding better than it was. But the icing on the cake was actually winning the "Encouragement Award" on the day .... It was a total shock .... I had no idea anything like that was going to happen .... so I ended the day with my first trophy and a new Eclipse head unit .... how cool !! Cheers, Alan.

Very well done. Keith is very good value, an experienced judge (under ISACA and now CAASQ) + very handy installer store owner.
I really will aim to have the system fine tuned for this event so people can listen to someting a bit like a refernce although each car is unique and it is certainly possible to get a car sounding better than mine...

Please post in Vic section for SQ spots as there are only 6 places available.

Well that is the idea of the day, able to tune your system for SPL. There are a number of things you can try, different frequency's bursts Vs sweeps, ported and sealed boxes, different amp gains etc...
The idea of the day is to play with all of those things so that on the day of an SPL comp you rock up and know which track and settingsd will give you the highest output from your system. I can provide some assistance on the day too. PS depending on the success of the Vic one i am not against flying to NSW to run another one if i can get enought pre-entries. Ideally it would be somewhere around Hornsby as i have relatives there.
