hey all,

I've been at it for like 2 hours and cant seem to get the thing out.
ive unscrewed the screws on the other side of the ashtray, used a bent up coat hanger to make 2 U shaped tools to fit in the small holes (as previously suggested) put it in as far as possible and *pull* through the tape slot and nothing... wont budge.

ive also tried using 4 nails but to same effect.

i know that there is a special tool for this does anyone know a shop or woteva that would gimmie a loan of the tool or just remove this for me for free (or cheap) ? or how much is it worth?

or has anyone got a pic of the special tool for this so i can try and base one off it?

any help would be very appreciated. :)

AU Falcon Factory Deck Removal

To remove the Factory System, you will also need an Anti Tamper Torx Screwdriver or bit, as these screws are used to hold the Factory Deck mounting brakcet in place.

Open the Ash tray, and remove the 2 screws located behind the ashtray.

Remove the Centre Console Shroud, by unclipping it from the Instrument faschia

The mounting bracket used to secure the Factory sound system will now be visable, as will the Anti-Torx Screws. Depending on the Model (Base, Mid or Premium sound system), there may be 2 or 4 screws holding the assembly in place. Remove all visable Anti-Torx Screws.
The Factory Sound system should now slide out from its housing, complete with its mounting bracket. You will need to disconnect the electrical connectors, and Antenna Plug to remove the Deck completely form the vehicle.

that may help

i have a au2 fairmont (6 disc in dash).
my deck came out of the dash without removing any other parts.
no torx or any other screws -these are EF/EL.
i used the proper removal tool once, and used mums cooking skewers once. (the tool is the same as a philips deck.)

process:
try one side at a time. put 2 skewers into 2 holes on a side. push the outer end of the skewers outwards which has the effect of pushing the other end and the "catch tab things" inwards. then give the deck a jiggle/pull forward. when it moves a bit, do the other side.

did my car, and the xr6 i sold my deck to. (way too cheap but thats another story)
some are difficult some are easy...

ok the problem u have is the same i had with mine

the clips that hold the deck into the dash have been bent AWAY from the deck :(
with or without the proper tools the HU will not come out :(

y can try and angle the tools to the outside of the HU and it might get at the clips

or u can just smash the f**k out of the face of the old HU to get at the clips :)
