just wondering if anyone can help me out. i am going to be installing an amp and a sub in my ute soon whilst retaining the original head unit.
Was just wanting to know the best way to wire the amp to the head unit as the standard units dont have RCA plugs

i think with the BAs there is this 'patch pannel' where u can connect things to the sterio. To get to it its on the drivers side, next to your left knee. Its like a flap that opens and there are various connectors for things such as amps and that stuff. My friend showed me with his BA cause he got a fone kit installed.

or there is also the adaptor which come with most amps that utilizes the speaker wires for each channel

I just replaced the premium sound amp and sub with my own. Couldnt use any of the factory wiring! The remote signal sent from the factory unit is only 5V and will not turn on the amp.
You need to run your remote off something like the cigarette lighter power cabling. Run a positive power line straight from the battery (you can get through the firewall near the kickpanel on the passengers side). And earth the amp to the chassis.
For signal to the amp, the best way is to buy a line convertor and tap into the rear speakers for signal. This will give you RCA's to plug into your amp. Doesnt downgrade the quality of the signal to the rear speakers by the way.
The factory amp sits in the boot (if you have premium sound) behind the carpeting on the left side - thats the best place to chuck your amp so it wont be in the way.

Hope that helps. I was going to take pics when I installed mine for a doco, but couldnt be a***.
