Hi all . Can a BA Futura 6 stack stereo be replaced with an aftermarket unit without affecting normal operation of other stuff that is displayed on the same screen. I understand that perhaps the controls on the steering wheel may not be connected again but I would like a more current stezza. Has anyone successfully done this or knows someone who has ?

you can simply bypass the stereo and put a new one in, it just means that half the buttons on your dash and the screen are almost obsolete, you cannot remove the old stereo. although one of two people have done successful modifications including screen location. or you could go the ASL route, upgrade your screen etc and then purchase the Alpine Hub kit which allows you to intergrate pretty much anything into the stereo

i have a stereo in the tissue box holder. Only problem is car has to be in neutral or drive to eject cd's otherwise its fine. and you only loose steering wheel controls if you just switch the speaker wires to the new stereo.
The original stereo as said cannot be removed or the car will not run. I will post a pic of my setup tommorrow

Have a look at www.alpine.com.au and it will give you the answers that you need to improve your system in wonderful ways and still keep your six stack without altering the stock look.

problem with alpine hub is it still uses original cd player so if you want mp3 / wma then the cd player in the tissue box is the only way to go. If you just want to add subs to your existing player then alpine hub is awesome.
Also just installing a deck is cheaper !!!! Try a search there are at least 4 other threads on this topic now just don't use any two letter words otherwise the search will come up with 0 results everytime

Both the alpine hub, and adding RCA options, still leaves you with a very basic CD/radio player with rather poor audio quality.
If you want something good, or features the stock unit doesn't have, new head unit is the only option.
