hey all, i wanted to know a few things about the POS sound system used in the standard ford BA XT range.

1. i just went out and bought a line out converter to add RCA outputs for my sub, but i don't know how to get the panel out of the dash to get to the loom on the back to wire the damn thing up, any help would be appreciated.

2. is it possible to replace the ICC thingo with an in dash standard 2-din screen, like a pioneer or something? i'm really not too fussed with it telling me if i have the heater or the ac on or anything like that, i just wanna replace the whole thing if it's possible.

thanks!

replacing the ICC is not possible as it forms part of the computer network in the car (IE take it out and the instrument cluster and bem cant communicate with the PCM, HIM, and ABS.
Some people put aftermarket decks in but the best option ive seen is having the ICC converted by ASL Logistics (who make/supply the ICC's to ford) to include RCA low level outputs.

You can put a standard din in the tissuebox holder, which is a very popular option.

Of course you can't replace the icc with all of the work it does, If you looked at all the loom that plugs into that thing, you would understand, plus, how are you going to control your climate etc ://

Line converters are the best way to go, if you mean get that little triangle peice of plastic out, that's easy, but doesn't allow you to get behind the icc.

I think you have to get to the kick panels to get to the speaker wiring.

Run the line converters from the rear speaker wires - at the rear speakers. (save on RCA's too).

As mentioned the ICC can't be removed.

I put 4 5x7 soundstream speakers in with a clarion amp. I used a Pheripheral (brand) hi-lo converter and adjusted the gain on the amp as such.

Guess what. No Altinator whine or clicking.

You need to run 2 sets of wires from each speaker

1 from the powered side of the speaker to the HILO converter

1 from the amp to the new speaker.

You could get a premo sound setup for the XT. My mate has the full colour display and 6 disk player. There is someone round that will do a changeover for a few hundred. It also keeps the sleek stocko look :S

As mentioned, ASL can help with upgrading to a premium ICC system and more.

Be warned, it's not a cheap option.

Some moron at JB Hifi told me 'oh you have a BA, the best option is spending $3000 to get the colour display and then think about the stereo', The guy was a moron though, flat out arguing with me, when my mate was buying something. Yeah let's argue with them, when they are buying something! idiot.

Should of complained about him, but what's the point.

Anyway, I would just go for the headunit in the tissue box holder location, and then install the rest of your stereo, that will probably be way under $3k :/
