I own 94 XG ute which comes with 4" rounds below the dash. I want to put something bigger in (6x9" or other) but there is nowhere I can put them without cutting or making big mounts that get in the way. I can't fit them on the rear shelf, the footwell has no clearance and the doors need big mounts to clear the manual window winding mechanism. Has anyone been able to fit bigger speakers in without major cutting and if so how did you do it?

im just going off what ive seen with my mates XH ute here so yeh.....im pretty sure you would be able to put 6 inch speakers in the doors, you may be able to make a few brackets to suit a 6 inch speaker to place over the existing 4 inch speaker casing thing, and than cut out behind to make room for rear of 6 inch to fit....if any of that made sense....hahaha

I had an XF sedan and I fitted a three way split (tweeters, 4's in stock position and 6's in custom boxes under the seat). In such a small cabin these would sound awesome. Of course, i'm not sure if you can fit 6's under ute seats.

Perhaps 4 inch splits and a single 8 inch sub behind the seat might be a better comprimise, you could probably drive this setup of a decent head unit (just bridge the rear outputs).

Remember: bigger isnt always better.

i'll disagree with you there. get those Strathfield fibreglass 6.5" speaker pods for the doors. and a nice 12" behind the seats.
