I have recently purchased a 99 AU Forte and would like to install the new stereo system. I have a two piece system that I wish to install, which consists of the 260W CD/DVD player and Flip Out Receiver/Screen.
What would be my best method of securing these components into the existing mounts?
Would I need to make some brackets to screw onto the Head Unit and Screen?

Any advice would be grately appreciated.

I actually have two of these stereo systems, one is installed in my partners EF wagon [with the CD/DVD Player and Screen mounted in] and the other is installed in my EBII, which only has the CD/DVD Player. The EF had the two positions to install the two components easily, whereas the EBII only had one position, but the room for the two. To install both components into the EBII, I would need to make a support bracket for the second component.

Will I hit the same 'Brick Wall' with the AU, as I have done with the EB?

PLEASE ADVISE!

im not 100% sure, but if the player and screen combined requires a single din position, then you dont need a bracket, but if it requires a double din position, it will need a bracket!

I have been away for the past week, picking up the AU and seeing my dieing gran. I have had the original stereo pulled out and took the 'CLIPS' off the sides of it. I took the car into my friends shop 'GT Audio' in Adelaide and was told that I could have a bracket made, but it would look 'UGLY'. I was told by Theo, that it would work out better for me to purchase a 'Single Din' DvD Player and Screen. It's really enoying, cause I like the combo unit that I have and like the features in this unit. At the same time, I don't want my 'DASH' entertainment centre to look 'UGLY'.
WHAT TO DO? I'm not sure!

I do know exactly what you mean about the brackets though.

I'm a touch confused.....

Didn't AU's have a double din apperture to begin with??

If so, I am pretty sure you could mount the lower unit off the upper unit using a pretty simple tin bracket and the factory screw holes on the unit and it'd all be covered up by the standard AU fascia anyway.....

I'm sorry if I am not getting the problem here, but it sounds pretty simple to me.... maybe some pictures would help??

You are right in thinking that the AUs have double din stereo, but the size of the standard AU Stereo, is actually smaller than the aftermarket stereos. The standard stereo is slightly shorter and not quite as high in the sides. Keep in mind also, the system that I wanted to install, consisted of two seperate components. This in itself, makes the overall size slighty larger.
The other thing that you must remeber, is that there is actually a bar that runs accross the lower section of the dash and the ashtray screws to it. This bar restricts the lower component fitting all the way back. I have spoken to a few different audio specialists and have been told the same thing by all. They all recommend that I stick with a single din unit, consisting of the DvD Player/Screen and TV, like my current units. The only difference with this is that it only requires the new single din facia and aftermarket stereo to be installed. No messing around with brackets, screws and that stupid bar in the dash. This means that I can have a nice compact system, with less fuss in the installation and the correct facia to cover the face properly.
I'm not sure if it is the same in all AU models, but I know that if you own an AU1 Forte Classic, then you will have the same issue as I have just had. All that I can say is if you would like to have the option of DvD/CD/7" Screen/TV/GPS, then do yourself a favour and purchase a 'SINGLE' din Player/Screen and a 'SINGLE' din facia [Facias can be purchased from Mark, go HERE {DESCRIPTION}] and the Player/Screen is totally your choice, there are lots of great single din player/screens on the market.
GOOD LUCK with it.

THANKYOU ALL for your help. I will post some pictures of my little stereo project soon. STAY TUNED.
