My dads got a I-Paq palm pilot that hes going to get rid of and I was wondering how hard it would be to put into my car and use it as my headunit. It runs on Windows and plays mp3s/videos and all that.

Currently I have a 4-channel amp running my speakers and a monoblock amp running my two subwoofers. How would I go out about putting the I-Paq into my setup and how hard would it be.

Any help and ideas much appreciated.

my dad also has an i-paq. there awesome. firstly i would make a bracket for the ipaq to sit in then mount it to the dash (probably near the ashtray) then connect the output of the ipaq into the rca input on your deck (if it has one). that way you'll be able to listen to cds aswell cuz those ipaq dont really hold much. you can buy a 1gb memory card for them for $100. but thats still not enough memory. if you mount into a bracket you will still be able to take it out of the car to use. anyway i hope this info helps.

Yep. auxillary input into the deck would be the ideal option. Not heaps have this feature.

Or use an FM modulator to listen to the IPAQ's output on the head unit's radio tuner.

Yep - bracket to hold it there, power input and you're laughing. Neat idea.

Does it do GPS as well?? Possibilities are endless...

Thanks for the help guys.

I haven't bought my new headunit for my system yet so I guess I got the bonus of being able to buy a headunit to suit this setup.

So, I-Paq into RCA Input, then my amps and whatever through the RCA Preouts? Then if I set the headunit to auxilary mode I could listen to music/movies off the speakers of my car?

Lukey, check out clarion HUs and see what you think. Quite a lot of them have AUX inputs.

yea clarions are good like that, i worked for their service dept for a while, and i had a similar setup, only i have a sony head unit, and the aux in was for a stacker, so i needed to run my input thru a pic micro so the hu wud read it, altho if u ask the manufacturer im sure they will be more then happy to help. And the ipaq can get a gps cradel add on :D
