Hey guys,
Seen a few threads around where people have installed touch screen carputers in ba/bf's... looking to do the same, however my ICC isn't colour.. it is the dual zone climate control, expanded trip computer (as opposed to the lowest level ICC) so the screen is the same size as the colour ones, but not colour - it's more of an LCD display. I've got the V8 Fairmont. My question is can i connect a carputer to this screen and have touch screen capabilities and run it in colour, or would i need to replace with a colour screen from a higher end model? If so what would be the approximate cost to purchase this (i could install myself) Cheers guys! |

You should concider relocating the monochrome LCD down below the ICC and installing a LCD with higher res for the carputer in its place but it would take a bit of custom fabrication though. The reasoning is that even with a color ICC the res is not that flash (720x480i) and you need a special display card to get those resolutions. This constraint limits the choices for the PC.

That an the std LCD is not a touch sensitive LCD... So unless they make something to put over it (which will require software and calibration, thats if they make anything at all for the purpose) then it'll never be touch...
Only way to do it is add an aftermarket LCD... Cheers, Tim

Thanks guys, the more info I get the better so its much appreciated..
Does anyone know the dimensions of the monochrome LCD (to find a replacement)? And do you know of anyone that has done this so I can use it as an example? Cheers |

I have a Carputer in my BF but I am using the color ICC being the High series model. As I said the more economic way for you would be to relocate the ICC screen and install a lilliput or similar screen in its place. Some come with touch screen already, however you can get an overlay that fits the ICC on Ebay for around $100. The only drawback of the Ebay one is a dimished brightness from the LCD but it is still very usable except in direct sunlight early morning or evening.
