I'm wanting a CB to whack in the car so I can talk to randoms. Which one?
At the moment I'm pretty much only looking at the Unidens as I can get them cheap. http://www.uniden.com.au/AUSTRALIA/p_in ... radios.asp There's not a overly huge amount of price difference between the cheapest and most expensive there. Which is the best? |

I'm thinking about doing the same thing, but I'm looking at GME ones. I really don't think there's a huge difference between the two brands, so if you can get Uniden for cheap then go for it. We have had both Uniden and GME radios and they are both pretty good. I reckon I'll be going for one of the compact sets, same output power but in a smaller unit so I can hopefully fit it into the supposed tissue box holder in my BA without removing anything like my dad had to with his larger set. Both brands offer these compact sets but the GME TX3220 can be modified using a kit that you buy from them to convert it to a set with a remote mounted head which may or may not be useful later on.
If what you mainly want to do is to talk to randoms (like I do) then a basic set will do the job. I've never used any functions other than the volume knob and channel select on any of our sets, so that's all I'll be getting. But, like I said you are pretty safe with either brand and if you can get cheap Unidens then go for it.

Which is the best? As far as the "Best" they all do UHF CB. So if UHF CB is all you want to do, then go for the cheapest. (012) After that, they all have different features. The 015sx has a remote head (space saving,) The 95 is UHF and AM in one, the 88 is DIN sized, the 089 is compact. Personally, I have an 015 (not the sx) and have the box mounted under the seat, and the remote head in the tray under the Ash Tray (see my gallery for pix) and it works really well. If I had space above, in a DIN slot, I would have put one there, but with Premo sound, there wasn't any. |

DIN size is no benifit to me as I have no free DIN slots.
The 015SX sounds handy with the removable face. What are the benifits of having AM built inaswell as in the 95? |

Hardly anyone uses AM anymore, except maybe waaaaaay out in the bush. It has slightly better range, under certain atmospheric conditions. UHF is much more Line of Sight (FM signal) |

You can access 40 channels that i imagine are hardly ever used lol? Admittedly with 27meg AM youd have better chances of skipping to the mainland But yeah i dont imagine there's too much life on AM these days? I would agree that a UHF is a UHF... they all have same output so get one with features and price tag you like.

Ok, cheers.
The UH012SX ( http://www.uniden.com.au/AUSTRALIA/p_uh012sx_index.asp ), UH088SX ( http://www.uniden.com.au/AUSTRALIA/p_uh088sx_index.asp ) and UH089SX ( http://www.uniden.com.au/AUSTRALIA/p_uh089sx_index.asp ) are all the same price, any reason to take one of them over the other two? |

Not really. They've all got different yet opposing features.
The 012 and the 089 are pretty close, but the 012 has Standard LED's rather than an LCD. I prefer LED screens personally, (brighter) The 088 is DIN. so if you want DIN convenience then its the pick |
