Hello everyone first time on so please be gentle with me. I have a 97 el futura with cd stacker, now my brother has just bought 98 el xr6 and would like to purchase a stacker for it. Both dash units are the same so we are assuming that the xr6 can have one. If so what are we looking for because there are a few pioneer stacker on ebay but not sure which one to bid on. AQny help would be greatly appreciated.

make sure you get a stacker from a EL with the cable and you should be right. dont try and fit a eb or au one as it wont work. even some ef ones wont work in el,s for some reason (dont ask me why) maybe someone else can tell me why

The EF/EL head units are Alpine jobbies, yes. They use Alpines M-BUS system to connect to the stacker so you'll need one that has this capability (M-BUS stackers can be indentified by CHM- in their part numbers). You'll also need an adaptor as the stacker connector on the back of the head unit is different from Alpines standard 5 pin DIN connector.
I had an Alpine CHA-634 put in my EF Fairmont a while back. It's a six disc CD/MP3 stacker. The MP3 capability is great as it lets you cram much, much more music into it than 6 real CDs would allow you to. It's also dual bus (M-BUS/AI-NET but M-BUS head units need an additional cable as well as the adaptor for the head unit stacker connector) so I have the option to upgrade to a newer Alpine head unit (I'm only using the stock Fairmont "mid series" H/U with it atm) down the track if I so wish. All up, it cost me 450 bucks from Alberts Car Stereo: 350 for the stacker itself, 50 for the adaptor and 50 for labour. 50 bucks for two hunks of plastic and a bit of cable is a bit rich IMO but given the great deal I got on the rest of it (They had 399 on the tag for the stacker alone, I must have got the guy in a good mood when he quoted 450 for the whole lot. He was quite surprised when I came back with his quote two weeks later!) I'm not going to argue.

I have one of these for sale - A Kenwood 10-stacker, including bus cable, all manuals etc from when it was bought, FM modulator, and remote control.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my question. You all have saved my brother from buying the wrong type of unit for his car. Greatly appreciated.
