Hey all, thinking of getting a cd stacker but I dont really know much about them.. Does the CD stacker need to be the same brand as the head unit (eg pioneer)? Also what are some of the places people have mounted the stacker in an EF?

yeah they have to be the same brand, but if you check your instruction book it gives you the few stackers that it is compatible with.

unless you get a radio frequency unit (Advised against) yes it needs to be the same brand so that the bus cable will plug into both. as for a good mounting spot (size dependant), i know a 6cd staker will comfortably fit under the passenger seat, thus allowing quick easy access to it if needed while on the move, Just use those wonderful screws with the drill tip straight through ya flooring.
Nice looking ride there to mate |

Just another question on this topic, say you have a DVD headunit, does the CD stacker have to be compatible for DVDs or does it not matter?

Not a unless you want to have DVD's in it otherwise it can play standard CD's through the system. As long as the stacker is a compatible unit for your deck it should then be able to play CD's and also DVD's if the stacker has tha ability as well.

Why not buy a head unit that plays MP3, etc. Then you can have one CD that plays 120-150 MP3 tracks. Thats the same as having a 6-stack under your seat!

Better still a DVD player that also plays MP3s then you can have over a 1000 tracks.

Yeah CD stackers not worth in IMO. Tend to be fairly pricey when new.... prolly better off getting an MP3/WMA capable HU.

Would agree to the above except sometimes the qualit level from MP3's doesnt quite match that of the original CD. I actually have the best of both MP3, and a stacker so meh. My stacker is concealed in my boot with the 6 most common cds i like to listen to, the deck in my dash changes between MP3, cd's and radio. collect the best of both worlds. In saying this i could easily live without it and connect the cable to my ClassD amps to monitor them and run everything out of the deck but well a stacker adds another component and its not in the way of anything so why not

I find it funny when people talk about quality of sound in cars. 128kbit mp3's are fine, and expensive stereos are IMO a bit of a waste of money.
Cars are the worst designed thing for sound from a shape point of view. Anyway ... if your headunit doesn't take a stacker, nothing wrong with putting one of the FM Modulator compatible stackers in, FM quality is more than acceptable.

i find that burnt cds adn mp3's still dont give the best quality sound compared to the original. i even find that some originals from ten years ago aren't even as good and originals from today.
Thats my 2cents |
