Hey Dude,
I used Pioneer in my AU and Alpine in the BA, i would recommend both. Pioneer is awesome bang for your buck, alpine is for when you want good quality and good power. Cant offer an opinion on clarion though as ive never used them.

I have a couple of Clarion i use for a custom 12volt stereo i use in my room they are pretty clear and seem very good for price, but i would Recommend Alpine Type S for un-amplified setups. i use them in my falcon now (splits at the front and coaxial in the rear) and they sound amazing!

Clarion is on par with Kenwood and Pioneer... There is much better out there and there is much worse too. Personally, I wouldn't say Clarion speakers are "good" but I'm used to using much better speakers like Morel, Dynaudio, Boston Acoustics.

If you really want good quality, be prepared to pay a lot. In regards to uniacidz comment. Speakers can sound good of crap depending in the environment you listened to them and the set up...and sometimes personal opinon. I personally have listened to Clarion speakers in my car as well as Blaupunkt and Pioneer and I believe my Pioneer did the best in clarity, however compared to an Apline Type S or R it was horrible...or any other high end speakers for that matter. If you want good sound, I suggest you let a subwoofer produce the low frequency and let the speakers focus on mid and high range. If you choose a speaker that produces low as well as mid and high, then the sound won't be as clear since the cone has to produce too many wavelengths which may cause it to muffle more. Subwoofers should be played at 100hz or less (I think...or something along those lines) to minimize directional bass (bass should be omni directional...as in you don't know where it is coming from) and mid- high are directional. Not having a go at you uniacidz if it seems that way...just thought I might clarify some points. In the end it is personal opinion...bang for buck, Clarion does the job well, but there is definitely better speakers out there.

If you're really keen on quality speakers, and don't mind spending some time researching, you can find stuff that is far better for the same money. Used doesn't always mean abused. Given it is tough to audition second hand speakers but if you can find someone that has the model you want, then you're all set.
I got lucky and picked up a brand new set of OZ Audio 130CS from the US for just over AU$340 landed. Still in box never used from 2005. |
