hey everyone. I bought myself a pair of Blaupunkt 2 way component speakers.....they didn't come with crossovers so im kinda wondering if its necessary to have a crossover? cause i can't seem to find one of them seperate crossover parts for sale from blaupunkt.....would a simple jaycar crossover work fine?

anyone know where else thye might sell them?

cheers

Not all splits or component speakers have cross over boxs, some of them are set up differently with some sort of eletrical thingo in the line to stop the speakers from playiing full signals. If you have a look in the original factory speaker line you might find it in there, otherwise might be built on the mid range.
How are these ment to be wired up? Wiree from amp/headunit to mid range, the wire from mid range to tweeter? If so it's probably built into the line or on the mid range.

its rather simple to make your own crossover if you like, personally for me i rather just buy it and be done with it but go check out the Data page at www.altronics.com.au

This is my paint job of the image they had in their instruction booklet.....but then i looked at the tweeters closely and it has a capacitor stuck to the side of it....im guessing this thing is acting as a crossover?

so im guessing its a straight forward connection

Your splits will have a Bi-polar capacitor in series to the tweeter to cut out the low and mid frequencies.

what hapens is the woofer has a natural rolloff where it jsut simply can't play higher frequency music loud. so it HP's the tweeter at this point and gives you a crossover point. it works well enough.
