as all other ef and el owners would know, there isnt enough room to sit 6 x 9s in the parcel shelf come standard but i was wondering if it would hurt the car at all if i cut out the original speakers holes a bit to fit the 6 x 9s?

I cut my holes bigger with a jig saw to fit me speakers, or another way to do it is to fit them in the wooden raisers you can buy from auto barn and just have it sitting over the factory hole

You use subs for bass.
Each set of speakers are ideally used for a different range of sound. So the speakers in the rear will be for mid to low range frequency. Fronts mid to high. then you have tweeters, the use of crossovers etc etc. So 6x9's really dont have to go in. Just a little bit more research is needed. edit : eerrr and before anyone says anything. I know this may be wrong but I'm not too far off the mark. Just no need to cut up the parcel shelf or fit those gay spacers. |

i spose. 6x9s are for that little bit of bass for people that dont like the bass of a sub.

I didn't have much trouble fitting 8" speakers on my parcel shelf...

If you're not serious about SQ get the 6x9's or better yet 7x10's as they are an all round speaker. Otherwise get some good splits up front, 6.5 2 ways up back and a decent sub with amp. Will sound soooo much clearer that way. Rear speakers are only a fill in, but you dont want them for bass. Get the best you can afford up front, and a bit of bass in the rear with a sub.
