Howdy,
I purchased some cheap a** Boss 4" for my door cuz my stockies were s**t me off...the Boss sounded good for like 3 months then one night cranked it way too loud...next morning the 4" were fu#ked.... so now my questions are- What are the biggest size speaker that can fit in my door?... when replacing my stock speakers i saw that the stock speakers acually had a plate that fit inside another larger hole in the door .. can i remove that smaller plate and insert larger speakers..??(hopefully that makes sense).. And second q, How hard is it to swap the 2, 4" in the top of the dash? Thanks |

shouldnt be 4" speakers in the dash, they *should* be tweeters
not too sure about the seperate mounting plate you mention..... maybe compare the door to an EB-ED one with the 6"s at a wrecker?

6" to 6.5" usually, not too sure on the ea's tho

um nup soz 4" suck pretty hard cadance make some alrite ones but yea its just a pooey size. good luck.

cheers cooki..ill have a look at the cadence range..im running a Cadence amp so i know quailty is great. hahah i just though about trying to amplify a set of 4"....i can just see them hyper extending then..!BOOM!.

any of the top splits with good power handling will do the trick for you. MB Quart are my pick as I have several sets over the years and they always provide excellent performance and have never failed.
You will find that if you replace the factory speakers with a good set of splits your front stage will sound much better, and as long as they are not under powered they should last for a long long time!

Yeah sweet ill have a look into the MB Quart.
Off topic with another question- I was lead to belive from may different sources that a Sealed Subwoofer enclosure will prouduce the lowest and deepest bass, as apposed to ported ect.. but i read this - "Disadvantages of a Sealed enclosure are less efficiency (requires more amplifier power) than vented enclosures and less low bass as compared to a properly tuned vented enclosures above the port tuning frequency. " Was I incorrect in thinking the lowest htz and deepest bass was achievable through a sealed box? Any feedback would be great Cheers |

Different sorts of enclosures have different advantages and disadvantages.
Firstly sealed enclosures are by far the most forgiving if you are in-experienced. Ported are not forgiving you need to get box size and construction correct + get port length and tunning correct or else it will sound crap and destroy the Sub(s) and even amps... Having said that ported enclosures are louder at certain freqneucy's so if limited power s your problem then thats a way to get the most from what you've got..

Thanks pyroay. i just really wanna hit the lowest hertz...but i think the worst thing about my system is too much rattling noise..i can hear everything shaking and the worst thing is passenger sun visor clip has been threaded so it's not tight and is only like 30 cms away from ear.. Grrrr...
im gonna have to do some deading soon.. thanks |

If these are 4" we are talking about then that is not generally the case, high power kills small unprotected speakers. 4" speakers are midrage speakers, as such cannot handle any bass, especally not the kind that an amp can dish out. the easisest solution is to fit a high pass crossover (band pass would be ideal) a simple high pass crosover is just a non polarised capacitor in series with the speaker. for a 4" speaker i would recomend a 68uF capacitor ($3.95 from Jaycar) By cutting most of the bass the rest of the sound is clearer, also the cap will help protect the speaker from amp clipping. if you want really low freq get a couple of alpine base engines... 1-30Hz response!! I might try that on some MB Quart's i reckon.. just one small question does the 68uF capacitor run on the positve line? Cheers |
