hey all... want a delay set up to the acc. of my head unit so it stays on untill the interior light turns of...(lock doors)
Issues - the interior light only turns on when the keys are out of the ignition - will the acc. wire and the interior light being joint cause problems???(hook up two diodes to each wire to stop the current going back to other devices)

I eblieve, and I may be mistaken. That the power wire for the interior light is constant power, and the switch is actually on the ground wire.
Therefore, you'd have to use the ground wire for this. Problem is your headunit would only be on when the interior light is on then... |

ok ground issue(why the hell did they do that) if i put one diode one way and one the other for each wire (acc and light) will this fix that if not tell me how...
2nd the head unit wont only be wired to the interior light it would be wired to both acc and light... i'll rage up som wicked paint diagram in a sec(just got home from the pub) EDIT: i tried the paint thing but it made my head hurt...some one do it for me... thats what this things for yeah...?

u want the headunit to stay on normally when driving yeh
an u want it to stay on when the car is idle an not have acc power. so u would connected the deck as per normally, then u would find a source of power that turns on an off when u lock/open ur doors u then connect a small relay to that source of power then connect the otherside to ur remote wire on ur deck so essentially u have 2 wires going into ur remote wire on the back of ur deck. i think u mite just need a testlight an patientence n find a wire u can tap into that does this, possibly mobile phone handsfree circuit (doesn't have to be fitted but the loom should be there), central locking maybe?? downfalls: but once u leave ur car an forget to lock it ur deck will be on all lit up for thievs.. if u forget to lock it u could return back with a flat battery hope this helps

- Head unit on as per normal but extend the time with the interior light...
Re: Downfalls thats why i want it to be hooked up to the interior light not the door looks... - light turns on when the keys are taken out of the ignition - if i forget to lock it the interior light turns of after a period of time...(so the head unit would turn off...)

It can be done from the interior light using a relay or two but I still don't see why?

Well with our new statesman you can turn off the car, pull the keys out and the radio is still going until you actually open your drivers door to get out.
Not sure if the BA/BF is like that so im guessing you want to do something like that?

Put a relay down by the drivers footwell, have a constant power to one side, and have the other side earth through the door switch. Direct power to one of the switched lines, and the other to your deck. Simple

the other issue is in the half a second between turning the car off and the light coming on the deck will power down, and then power up again,

I'm, contemplating adding a simple switch to the HU's ACC line, so I can have it on/off with the ACC line of the car, or fixed on - e.g. for car shows I won't need to leave the keys in the ignition.

its actually quite easy to do.
all you need is 1 relay 1 diode some wire firstly you need to take the + and - from your interior light conect it to the coil on the relay. loop the posative to the common on the relay. take the output of the relay to the acc input into the stereo. once the joint is made cut the acc line before the joint and insert the diode so the interior light does not activate everything on the acc circuit. good luck pm me if you want more details. |

Update, I have now added a switch for the stereo, works well. Can turn it on at any time without the key.
