Hey everyone, i'm sure heaps of you have an easy solution for this one...
I'm in the middle of mounting an Alpine CDA-9853R head unit, two pairs of MB Quart Reference splits and a Rockford P4004 amp in my EL Fairmont. I'm having trouble finding somewhere to mount my front crossovers... Where would you suggest is the best place? Also, should i mount the tweeters in the center of the woofers as is an option on the MB Quarts, or should i use the original mounting points on top of the dash. I can also easily use the A-pillars or door sails if that would be more appropriate. I'm looking for absolutely mint sound quality! Thanks in advance for any help.. |

i mounted mine in the arm rest of the front doors. when you pull the doorskins of there should be enough room to put the crossover in there.
cheers

Yeah i was thinking about that, but is there any problem with them getting wet inside the doors? The MB Quart crossovers are vented (not sealed).

I've got my crossovers mounted under the HU with double sided tape.
Mount tweeters either on A pillar or the Sail. I have mine forward of the original position, in the pods that they came with, angled into the cabin. Seems to work well, but if I had my time again, I'd custom mount them more stealthily in the A-pillar.

mine are wedged up under the dash and zip tied to something drivers side is up udner the dash, jsut behind the fuse panel area i think.. passenger one is wedged behind the glove box. they sit there quite happily..
my tweeters are mounted on the kick panels with a custom bracket (bit of sheet metal bent over on itself ) have a lok in the gallery

It's all in the set-up, I have had A-pillar set-ups that sound great and Kickpanels that sound great and you'd swear the tweeter is mounted in the dash it sounds like that is where the suond is comming from.
Going back to A-pillar and dash board mounting for the new set-up i think though.

I mounted mine under the HU too actually,
previously had them cable tied behind glovebox/fuse panel somewhere doors are bad. I bought my pioneer splits off a dude who had the crossovers in the doors and I had to remove and reco all the contacts for the speaker wire due to rust

Thanks heaps for your help fellas. I was still thinking about mounting the crossovers in the doors but now i'll try and squeeze them under the h/u. The MB Quart crossovers are ridiculously huge.
xr Rob, your tweeter pods look awesome. How did you fabricate them and your boot moulds? After seeing all the different places you guys have your tweeters i might actually mount them in the center of the woofers and see how the sound stage sits. Its easy enough to rip them out and try them in the a-pillars if i dont like it. |

Haven't you decided where you are putting them yet Aaron? Thought you'd have the new setup already finished by now

No undecided as yet. Around 300man hours into the boot and other area's and the front stage will be the last thing to be done since i want to have everything running and be able to hear where they sound best wplie moving them...
Wont be done for the first comp but definately done for Autosalon...
