Hi Guys

Just Upgraded from the factory AU HU to a Clarion, with an MTX Amp and 12 inch JL Audio sub. Have noticed that all the lights seem to go dim when the sub kicks in. Any ideas what i can do to stop this as it is really annoying.

Im running 4 guage + and - wires to the amp

Thoughts??

yeh sounds like your sub/amp package is suking alot of juice from the charging system. if your funds are short try turning the gains down a bit till you can afford a capacitor.

most of the time ya dont need a cap just run another same size wire from the body of the car to the (-) neg of the battery and that will make a world of difference maybe your battery is also on its way out

The only cable that goes from chassis to neg terminal is about 16gauge (tiny).

Run a nice big 0 gauge cable to the neg terminal from the chassis. Thats what I did and it helped but not enough so it was cap time!

1 farad should do it...

Does you're 4g - wire from teh amp go all the way back to the batt? or is it earthed nearby. It's recommended to keep the earth wires as short as possible, earth them to a large bolt (seats, boot mounts etc. are options)

a quick and easy thing to do is run a nother negative wire from your amp/ capacitor sound you ahve double the amount of negative feed and it stops the dimming of lights or if you want a better option i'll explain. a cars negative wire is a 16 g wire and your amp wire is most likely a 4g wire. if you make another negative wire from your battery make sure its a 4g and hook it up to the chassis (a safe spot) it shall do the same thing. by the way this has not been done personally but was done by a mate of mine.

If you want to go back to the battery (which is better) you should just use a thick cable. so in your case 2 or 0 gauge for earth instead of 4 gauge, its expensive tho.

you dont go back to the battery with eath. most audio companys will say no longer than 50cm.

Ask pyroay wheather he goes back to the battery.

Although he probably has a boot mount.

Resistance is related to 3 things: Length, Thickness and material.

So if you raise the thickness you can easily have a higher length of cable without any issues.

Going back to the battery with a high gauge cable insures that you don't have electrical noise.
