I have been asked by a friend to make some door pods for his EF to suit 6.5" speakers in a 3 way set-up. He will then place 4" in the doors and he has his tweeters in my old A-Pillars on the dash.

I made a set of fibreglass ones for my car but they are just cosmetic.
(Shown Below)

My question is if i were to make them for his car and make a mould, would others be interested in buying these from me and if so how much would you be willing to pay?

They would be out of fibreglass without the hole cut out so they would suit different types of 6" or 6.5" speakers?

I have no idea on the cost of materials or time to produce these i'm just trying to get a feel if they would be well recieved.

it doesn't have to be used for a 3 way set-up you may wish to use it for a 2 way set-up or as part of a 4 way set-up for that matter. I will make the mould pretty straight, so you could easily cut out to flush fit a crossover, but i'm not going to custom make them to suit a particular one because everyone will want one different.

They will all come unpainted and un primed, so you can vinyl them or paint to suit your requirements. etc...

Not a bad idea Aaron - should provide a good foundation for various applications :)

A couple of notes regarding door trim feasibility :

EF Gli - no front map pockets / no rear map pockets
EF Futura - front map pockets present / no rear map pockets
EF XR - front map pockets present / no rear map pockets
EF Fairmont - front map pockets present / no rear map pockets
EF Fairmont Ghia - front map pockets present / rear map pockets present
NF Fairlane - front map pockets present / rear map pockets present
DF LTD - front map pockets present / rear map pockets present

EL Gli - front map pockets present / no rear map pockets
EL Futura - front map pockets present / no rear map pockets
EL XR - front map pockets present / no rear map pockets
EL Fairmont - front map pockets present / no rear map pockets
EL Fairmont Ghia - front map pockets present / rear map pockets present
NL Fairlane - front map pockets present / rear map pockets present
DL LTD - front map pockets present / rear map pockets present

I guess my point is for people to be weary that in most applications, they will need to remove map pockets to make this mod happen. I did this on my EL Wagon for my 3 way Utopia setup too - thing was, the map pockets are plastic welded / rivetted to the door trim, so once they come off...they don't go back so easy hehe. Only really an issue if you intend to sell the car in the near future or sell without all the sound gear etc.

Anyway, just some info for ya's all :)

Aaron - I need some info on your kick panel job sometime too - lemme know when ya have a minute so I can give you a bell :)

Thats a good point Steve, although it's not much trouble to re-fix the door pockets if you have them later on. Just screw on from the back

Thanks it has been a bit of a project, and i do enjoy driving it around.

With the pods i will work with my mate over the comming weeks, dont expect anything too soon, it was just tossing up the idea of punching a few out while i was goign to the effort of producing one.

I dont know wheather i'll do rears again, as i dont think there will be a huge demand for these since there are speakers on the parcel shelf, but i'm sure the thought of 6.5" in the front doors has appealed to many especially those who want to instal a 3 way system but do not want the hastle of creating them themselves.
