Just wondering on a couple of things....when making my dual 12 inch sub box, should it be one complete box, or should it be split in the middle?
If it is split, can you have one ported and one sealed? As doesnt sealed give a thump, where as a ported is more of a boooom? Hope this made sence....

All I know is that sealed will give a tighter sharper sound but ported will get more power and be louder.

So would I be correct, or at least on the right track by saying, that having one side sealed, and the other ported would not be a good idea as one sub, the coils would stop almost instant and the other(ported side) would still have vibrations going through coils??
This s**t confuses me something shockin. Wiring is easy.....schematics of it all suck.

hehe nah aint that hard to get ya head round....u can go just sealed or sealed and ported/vented.
I still recommened sealing the two 12"s so they have there own enclosure as they will perform better. Now as to whether or not u should port...well how do u like bass ...are u considering ever running in db drag competition SPL days and so on...maybe just for fun or serious competition... Do u prefer tight hard thudding bass notes or long more draw bass notes that will make the system sound louder...but will have that drone sorta sound....so for sound quality u more tend to avoid ported enclosures....obviously SPL guys go the other way... Remeber ported/vented enclosure do require u to mostly tune your system to match your sub at a different frequency versus sealed as with the enclosure volume....for porting to work at best it will require a larger capacity enclosure and normally also slightly more space between the rear of the sub and the nearest wall....or face of sub to wall/floor if u have it inverted.

Ahhh the fun of having Free-Air subs no need to worry about porting or enclosed...though the sound on a Free-Air is muffled
Anyways back on topic...what Big Kev said... Enclosed for clarity and more of the quick punchy bass, such as those you here in DOOF DOOF music. Ported for the more LOW deeper bass...example of low deep bass is GET LOW or any Need For Speed: Underground music or Fast and the Furious soundtrack. All up to personal preference...by the way I have found enclosed subs are heard louder outside and ported can't be heard so much outside but is damn loud inside. <----correct me if I'm wrong here. phong =P~

Ported/Vented -> SPL Direction Non-Ported - > SQ Direction

Well by the sounds of it, it also depends on my music choice. I listen to everything, but mainly metal.....not poofy metal....full on (most people cant understand s**t) lol.
Anyways ported would prolly be my direction.....wouldnt be entering and SPL thingys..... So if I do decide to go ported. My setup will be similar to EBTURB's, but only the subs will be up against back seat and flat panel on back(possibly plexglass).... Should they be separated down the middle of box? so its like 2 made into 1? Or just leave it as 1 giant box. Also, how would I determine how big to make it? If it is recomended to have a ported box for this sub at 2.3cf(figure pulled out my a***) would that then become 4.6cf?

ok well from the info you provided above i'd be going 2x 12"s in your choice of one big sub box/enclosure that is sealed in the middle(so 2x completely sealed compartments).....or 2x physically seperate sealed enclosures/sub boxes...
And i'd be going just sealed no ports...the sound from the metal will be much beter...subs will provide really tight but hard bass notes for the drums and the guitar sounds unreal if youve also got some nice front splits to compliment the sub setup... IMO going ported...whether ya care for spl come...is more for listening to rnb, maybe pop, techno,trance,house,electro, bass mixes or complimations........music like metal, heavy metal, rock etc or real vocal stuff i reckon sound better on straight sealed. You should hear evanescence on mine or nickleback/breaking benjamin sounds awesome and thats on pure SQ system

and for enclosure size....if u go one big box/enclosure then yeh obviously you roughly double the volumes or even give just a smidgin more....if going seperate best is to go what the producing company has specified for it...what 12" woofers did u plan to run ? and for curiosity sakes off what amp?

Thats correct not a good idea. Unless your refering to a bandpass box, these do have benefits but are quite difficult to get right and for most first or second time box builders i would not reccomenend one.
