i got no idea but have considered a second battery, does anyone know how to set up a car for 2 batteries??????

a good idea might be to check out what the 4x4 drivers do? i know my dad is looking into a twin setup for his hilux, and most 4x4 shops websites etc have info on dual setups :?

easy enough to do ... just finding a spot for it will be your biggest hurdle. I don't think you are allowed to have them inside the cabin!

Just go to an auto shop (e.g. Repco) and they sell the kits, you'll need to buy the second battery seperately, but the kits provide the thick wiringing you'll need and some sensor thingo that checks the battery levels and does someother stuff.

quite an easy process. they shouldn't be mounted in the cabin and i recommend a dry cell battery, optima or odyssy. boot is a good spot out of the way and saves the space inside your engine bay. Run the power cable (+ and -) from the front battery to the second unit. i recommend using 4ga. put a fuse holder at each end of the +'ve cable within 300mm of the battery or as close as possible, incase the cable earths. 40-60amp fuse is big enough. You can also put in a switch if you ever wanted to isolate the two batteries for whatever reason (car audio, fridges etc) when your engine isn't running (eg aerpro model number AP4842). Hope this helps

Not as much of a problem if its a dry cell. Lots of people put dry cells in the boot. No need for a whirly bird on the bootlid! :D

Would one of those yellow/red or blue tops batterys be a solution instead of having 2 batteries? Just wondering because a bloke at work who recently one the Tasie National Car Sound comp uses a blue one and he's having no problems - I've never heard subs pump that loud before.
And they cost like $400 so 3 or 4 times a normal battery, thought that must mean there pretty special!

how much do these second battery cost guys and also do you runn the negative of the second battary to th negative of the first battery.

yeah an optima yellow or blue top are great they are heaps better and well worth the money

runs my huge stereo for ages without the car on

Depends on the quality of the second battery you buy really.
And yes, you would run the negitive to the negitive - obviously. You could either earth it to the chasis and it'l run that way or direct cable.

this battery venting has got me curious so I am trying to find the regulations on it. Having no luck so far but I did find this post in a thread somwhere.

okay then, umm how much would a 12 volt one be and a 24volt one. And if the 24volt one was instled would you need a transformer or something to get it to 12v
