I'm trying to install a (slightly) better radio in the car. It's a Kenwood KDC-U446 I picked up second hand. Someone chopped it out of a wreck and it's got the harness and ends of the wires that came from the previous car still hanging off that. The colours of those car wires are different from the Kenwood ones. It was probably another Ford. As per this DaVinci-worthy image;
So there are 11 wires on the radio that I have to connect to their counterparts on my EA Falcon. Here's a schematic of the audio wiring for that; There are certain bits of info contained in the above schematic which I'm surely missing. Maybe there are conventions governing how diagrams such as this represent reality e.g. if a speaker's on the left, it's probably a left speaker, and the first-listed wire colour is the positive. These things I'm not sure of and afaik there is no key. So I'm not sure which 11 wires from the workshop manual image to match with the ones I see on the radio. i.e. which colours from my car to correctly pair with which colours on the radio? General instructions not needed so far (though may be requested in future depending on ineptitude level that manifests during installation); these are already got. Thanks

Ok, left and right is determined from the driver's seat facing forwards and left on the drawing represents left in real life. And the wires with the black trace are the negatives. Check out the wire colours at the speakers themselves to verify. Rears should be easy.

OK, will check the speakers. I'd read about the black line being negative, but on that EA workshop manual pic the choices for wires for one of the speakers are Grey/blue and Grey/green. Which is the negative of those?
Also once I have the speaker wire choices sorted there are still the ones for the ignition, battery and earth to match to the car. On the workshop manual pic the wires not leading to the speakers disapear up into what looks a bit like spag bol with leggo added. Any idea which of the 3 wires remaining I should choose from that section of the diagram? Thanks for your help so far.

I think the diagram is out of the Max ellery's book, correct? I think where it says 'grey/blue' it means grey/black. There's about 1 million typos in that thing.
According to Gregorys. Constant 12v: Green/Yellow Ground: Black Switched 12v: Red/Blue Front Left+ve: Orange/Green Front Left-ve: Orange/Black Front Right+ve: Grey/Green Front Right-ve: Grey/Black Rear Left+ve: Pink/Green Rear Left-ve: Pink/Black Rear Right+ve: Blue/Red Rear Right-ve: Blue Black Dimmer for headlights on: Brown I would be checking with a multimeter for the power wires.

I will take 'switched' to mean ignition and 'constant' to mean battery. Thanks also for adding the brown. I was going to leave that one off. Will as you suggest check the wires w multimeter after removing old unit and pre putting in the new, if you meant make sure the battery and ignition car leads are behaving as they should. The $20 aerpro harness which plugs into your dash plug makes this both so much neater and so much easier... I have never used anything but... All you do with it is match the colours up and heat shrink it... Can be soldered in ease on the work bench instead of in the car... And is easily reversable...

Yes avoiding soldering in teh car sounds like a good idea indeed. Thanks for that helpful info.
Here is what is on teh unit now. Screwdriver required. Will see what's in the car when I take out the old. Thanks for helping out a greenhorn.
