Hey all, I have my head unit almost ready to go with all wires soldered and insulated, but I have no idea where to connect the earth
From doing searches I've found 'paint free metal location' or a black cable separate to the loom, but I can't find either... Please help? |

There should be an Earth wire along with the loom .
If not, find some metal part that has a screw/bolt hole which you can use to anchor the earth cable to. If it isn't bare metal, then just scrape the paint off it and sand it back to get a smooth metal surface, then attach the cable there. It is easier if the earth cable has sort of the washer type connector thing attached to it so you can slot a bolt/screw through it. phong =P~

I also thought it should be there - unless its been lost behind :S The thing I don't get is how the stock radio was earthed....
Yeah it does have the washer type connection, so any bolt connection on a bare metal surface will work? Here is where I was thinking... Tell me if theres better places. |

I'd try the ones that I circled first maybe? Before you put it all back in, try it first to see if the thing runs. if it does then I guess put it in any of the slots. phong =P~

Yeah I got it all working!
I ended up using the left torx hole for the 2nd din space.. Thanks heaps for your help! But the only thing not working, is the aerial doesnt auto raise, not a big deal... But do you know how to fix it, before I put everything back together? |

Don't worry about it mate.....
If you have power, you are not going to have any problems. As with all power and earth leads, you want to try and keep them as short as possible. If you were trying to power a starter motor (or something that draws big amps) then yeah, that earth point would be rediculous, but for a head unit, that is fine. Re your aerial...... there will be a trigger wire on the headunit. connect that to the aerial wire in your dash loom and it will be sweet......... I can't remember the colour of the aerial wire in your car, but I am sure that someone on here will know......

trigger cable is blue, the one for aerial... and amps!!
with the grounding, glad to see you got it working, but there is definitely a black cable in the factory wiring loom and this is the ground the factory unit uses |

AH! Are you serious!? That was the only black cable I could find... But I ruled it out as I thought it was for the aerial or something because the plug was very similar to the one on the blue lead from the head unit loom... Should I switch it over and use that for the earth? Oh and by the way, I ended up snipping of that plug on the blue lead, soldering it in, and now the aerial works, no problems! Thanks heaps for all the help guys! |
