Hi All,

What does the factory alarm system for the ED/DC Series of vehicles look like?

What does it consist of, and what level of protection does it offer?

Thanks

Will

There is no factory alarm in E series, all they have is Smartlock...

Not correct - there was a Ford approved add on alarm that integrated with smartlock for EF/EL's at least. IIRC it also used the smartlock keyfob.
I've seen it on an optional equipment brochure, and I did see one on Ebay a while ago.
Don't know if EA-ED's had one also.

Hi All,

I'm not too sure, hence my question.

I've seen some references made to a factory optional alarm. I just saw one then: The History of the Falcon GT (magazine, published in 1996). It says that the EB GT had a number of optional extras....including....a car alarm.

I know of a DC LTD that apparently has a factory alarm.

I rang Ford and got the reply "None left mate. They're one of the first things that stops after production has finished."

Will see if I can get some pics out of the guy with the LTD.

Will

They were made by a company called Vision in Melbourne somewhere.

Its a little black box, slightly larger than a pack of ciggies, and I know in the EF/EL resides in the drivers kick panel. It has a small loom extension that enables it to plug straight into the factory loom without splicing a wire.

I have 2 of them at home. And from what I understand, they have been around since the EB.

my nc has 2 little sensors about the driver and passenger doors that look kinda like microphones/speakers/little spy cameras. so ive always wondered if/where the rest of the alarm is ... if there actually for an alarm :0

Hi All,

I've eventually managed to track down Vision.

They are available on 03 9335 2411 - www.vision-group.com.au

They confirmed for me pretty much what arm79 had already stated: there was an ptional alarm produced for the EB onwards, and was available only as an OEM product.

It was indeed located in the driver's side kick panel and clipped straight into the factory harness.

Unfortunately, they are no longer available. As they no longer comply with the Australian Standards for alarms, they were deleted some time ago.

Despite all of this, I'd still be interested to chase one of these complete units down.

If anyone has one available, I'd be quite interested...

Thanks

Will

I know I was supposed to send you a pic of the box, but if you look at the vision site at product VAE318-1800, that is the box the factory alarm comes in.

I have 2 here that I no longer use, so up for grabs if you want one. They are from an EF/EL, so I dont know if the wiring loom will fit. Maybe you could ring vision to confirm if they do or don't.

Hi All,

I think that I may have come across an original OEM alarm, fitted to a 4.0 litre EB Fairmont Ghia in a wreckers yard.

The original owner of the vehicle was actually Boral. Considering the amount of money flowing around that mob, even back then during the recession, I doubt that they would have stuffed around with getting that car sorted out.

Tracing the wires around, I found that there was a small microphone element hanging from in between the edge of the dash and the door trim. The microphone leading to small, light grey, plastic box (that was taped to another larger black plastic box) that was cable tied under the dash with the rest of the wiring loom.

Unlike the EF/EL alarm units, no parts of the alarm were located behind the drivers kick panel.

I'll take some pics to see if anyone here might recognise it.

..and as useless as the EB/ED alarm might be compared to today's standards, it may be an interesting point to note for collectors of those vehicles - particularly when it comes to haggling time with any owner of a GT or Sprint (for instance) who's claiming to have a fully optioned, ex-factory condition car.
