Hello everyone,
I have an ED Fairmont with the factory premium sound system (alpine head unit, 6 stacker, sub and amp) but a couple of years ago I went to play a cd and a code came up saying E-04 in the H/U? Then when I put a new battery in the car and had to put the code in for the radio, I buggered up the last number and it hasn't let me do it again since. There is still power there and the speakers hum, but no display and no action. Question: Is the head/unit stuffed? I'd rather keep the original stero in the car as it was a weirdly option car. If it has buggered up can I fix it? can they still be bought from anywhere? Also I was removing the fuse in the amp today(the one in the boot, just trying anything) and dropped it. Does anyone know how many amps the fuse is?

disconnect the HU for a while and see if it resets itself (like, unplug the HU itself and leave it unplugged overnight)
cant you find the fuse?

Thanks for the info.
Yeah the fuse is really hard to get to without removing the amp. And i could only wiggle it out. I heard a metallic ting and it seems to have gone to the twilight zone

Fuse is 30 amp mate

The head units can be fixed if need be there is a place I sent mine to called ASL Logistics who do all the repairs on the factory premium sound units find them on Google

Thanks GTbob, I'll go and get a new fuse now
Yeah I completely disconnected the H/U and took it inside our house last night. Plugged it back in today and is same.
I have a pioneer single disc front loader from another car we had, but I'd like to keep the original stereo if I can. She came with a lot of factory extras, even had the windows tinted before it was first rego'ed. I want to be sure the original H/U is no good before I commit to putting in another H/U. I havent even had a working radio in the car for 2 years Lucky I have a 2 1/2 inch exaust on the 5.0L
