My mate has got an EF Fairmont and th ex - owner wired some extra speakers into the rear speakers - these ugly looking boxy speakers between the rear speakers and rear window pillars.
One looks like it was wired in and had blue tack added - no bull. My mate thinks they are ok, but from my POV, very ricey and not needed. Doesn't the EF Fairmont already have a six speaker sound system? If it was my car, I would take them off and throw them out.

Also, these speakers could act as a blindspot in your rear vision mirror.

I'd tell him to get rid of them - the parcel shelf is good enough to rear sound - tell him to get some cheap nasty speakers from supercheap / autobarn etc - chances are they'll sound better than the pieces of s**t he has at the moment. Yes, I agree - restricting vision = bad...that's why I've gone to lenths to use DF/DL LTD rear seat headrests instead of the normal EF/EL/NF/NL ones - the LTD ones are a slightly different shape and are smaller in size.

i've never found a reason to upgrade my rear speakers. it''s not lack of opportunity at one stage i had a few spare 6"'s, just found no need as I can't really notice them in my car, and I don't really worry about the back passengers couse there usually arn't any.,

A bit different between wagon tailgates and sedan parcel shelves though
When I had my system back in the wagon days - I had some rear Alpine DD Drive coaxials (DDS-R17G) at the time, but couldn't hear them all the way back there - eventually sold them with very little use ! Sedans on the other hand offer a good opportunity to run midbass drivers for ambience - I'm running the older Alpine F1 midbass drivers (SPX-F17T) active for rear fill (no tweet) which sound great...no way would I put them in a wagon tailgate though |
