I am lead to believe that the speaker size for the dash of the EF/EL is 4inch. Is this true.
Also do i need any brackets or anything if im going to fit speakers there in my GLi

dash speakers? EF? wtf?
the only speakers in the dash are the tweeters, and afaik no GLi's got them the ones in the front doors are 6"s, i've found all pioneer 6" speakers are a direct fit, although you need to trim the splash shield a little so they fit in (just a ~30mm slit either side of the speaker cover in the splash shield)

there is no provison for fitting speakers in the dash of a EF/EL falcon,
theres only 2 x 1.5"tweeter's up the top, (under the vent strip) and the GLi's didn't get those. The speakers are a full range in the doors and they are 6inch. And if your replacing them don't get some cheapy kenwoods or any no name brand crap as you'll be very dissapointed. One of the nicest speakers I've found that fit quite well are JBL's and I personally like the pioneer 2way splits (TSC-1625's)

sry guys. Its just from working at the wrecker i seem to remember there being some speakers on the top of the dash right under the window. They werent fitted on the GLis but i think they were on the Fairmonts or something. I remember Rob (workmate) saying for the GLi id have to run a cable to the head unit.
Or am i just going crazy. Maybe its old age (16).

As far as i know the speakers in the front doors are 5.25" and not 6". Fairmonts and above got tweeters that were installed near the front windscreen. As far as i can remember GLis also had the provision to fit tweeters, however none where fitted from factory.

On the topic of the factory tweeters, i've recently had the dash apart in my Eb Fairmont Ghia and found the factory one's are still fit. I was wondering what i could use them for or if i could make use of them.
Currently i've got: Pioneer Mp3 HU Pioneer TS0G1640R 6" 2ways in the doors, facotry position Sony Xplod 6x9's in the parcel shelf Clarion 12" sub in a sealed box Clarion 2chan 200w amp driving the sub. Factory tweeters not currently hooked up. Front & rear speakers are wired from the HU's speaker outputs, Sub is running off the Clarion amp. I've got another amp around the place somewhere, 2chan iirc, also a 2nd pair of the pioneer speakers, a 12" sub and a Panasonic HU as well. Gear that was installed in my Torana, but out atm due to full ground up resto & hot up. Anyone have any sugestions on how i could make use of the factory tweeters in my system? I would like a bit more trebble in my system without having to spend much $$. If i need to make use of my 2nd amp, all i'd need is a wiring kit for it & a power distribution block so i can hookup both amps to my battery. Cheers ToranaGuy

Hmm, I think you only get tweeters with Premium Sound, I had an EF Fairmont & it didn't have them.

i spose if you really wanted to use them you could, but i doubt they would be as good as your expecting. They have, as far as i understand, a crossover built onto them. So you could proly splice the cables going to the door speakers and then run it up to the tweeters. Hell your factory wiring is proly there up to the tweeter, so just splice them into the door speakers cables down at the head unit. BTW: i got same amp as you running my sub. not a bad amp for one so small!! |

My car once upon a time had the premium sound option. Tweeters are all that's left now. I'm not expecting the earth out of them, just to add a bit more trebble to my system, as that clarion sub & amp package i bought from AutoBarn is very good for the money i paid, and there's a little too much bass. It won't overload my HU's amp to run both the front door speakers & dash tweeters off the one set of outputs will it? Cheers ToranaGuy

dont expect anything too fancy for a crossover. they are just a resistor or something similar.
as for overloading the HU, not really sure to be perfectly honest. May have an issue with loads. ie: 2 * 4 ohm speakers in parallel = 2 ohm. |

The tweeters in the factory premium system us a resistor (at least I think they are a resistor) mounted on the body of the tweeter as a cross over, so don't bother looking for a crossover anywhere else!
