I have an EF futura, and I've noticed that the pocket is simply a "bolt on" peice attached to the bottom of the doors. Has anyone ever seen / made / owned a door pod of sorts that replicates this shape? I was thinking about making a 3-way, 4-speaker component design. If the door pod is successful, I know I will run into trouble sourcing / designing a crossover to allow for 2 bass drivers, Unless I find 8 or 2 ohm 8" drivers.

Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated.

dcstraight lso had custom door pods to suit a set of focal splits on his old wagon, they were pretty sweet, they also housed the splits in the pod as a well with removable cover. give him a pm.

Thanks for the suggestions. What would you recommend as far as crossover setup goes?

As I was looking at 4 speaker 3-way, it might be a bit hard. Should I possibly just mount two whole sets of splits instead?

Yeh, I bought them from steve a LONG while ago. Ended up installing them in ^jAsE^'s car. Great sound!

The indent in the GLi door trims is for the map pocket of course.. but certainly helps giving some depth for your 6" driver in a door pod :P

your best with results will be one amp to power a decent set of 4"-5" with x'over and tweeter and another amp powering a good 6 1/2" 2 way for the bass only.
so the tweeter does you high,
the 4-5 does the mid range
the 6 1/2 does the mid bass
subs do the sub bass.

you could do the whole front stage from a four channel or 2x2channal amps, eiter way. A 4 stage system i wouldn't recommend, cause to do that you would probablly want to mount maybe a 8"sub driver for sub bass in the front, any other way wont make a great improvement to overal sound quality.

The only reason I was considering pods, was to mount possibly TWIN 8" drivers (similar to that in my Yamaha floor speakers at home) and leave the 6" splits in factory position.

I think the "fullness" of the sound avaiable from these towers is so much better than the screaming from other stereos I have heard.

The idea was to replicate this. Maybe I should just pull apart my $1300 yamaha speakers and mount them in the doors of my car !!!!!

if going for 8's. make sure the mounting is as strong as anything and doesn't interfere with triming of dash, leg room (esp driver side).

Meh, home audio speakers. i cannot warrent it as i spend more time in my car than watching tv

i dont know if you being sarcastic or what but you cant do that cos car speakers are 4 ohm and house speakers are 8 ohm and i know they cant go in cars for some reason.

Oh Yes, I was being sarcastic. $1300???? to tear apart and put in my car? I don't think so. To Clarify, the speakers ARE $1300RRP, but Of course in a package I didn't pay anywhere near that much.

Most towers are actually 6ohm, and surrounds are 8, but that all depends on what brand you buy as well.

What I am curious about though, is how the crossover is made. But the general idea in my car is that the 8's seem to make a full sound, as opposed to bright? If that makes any sense at all. They get a schiet load louder than a single 6's.... and that's off less than 65WRMS and they don't "scream" like other speakers do.

Yeah Brad bought my old pods and AFAIK are in Jase' EF mont - here's a pic of when I had them in the wagon :

Image

Housing 2 X 8" drivers in a door is a bit overkill IMO...sure it's great to have great bass up front...but a well tuned / setup 3 way system with a single sub in the boot can yield as good results in a more practical fashion too.

Cheers,
Steve

i think there is a guide where u have the split system relative to the sub size. ie. 6" drivers up front matched to a 10" sub should together cover most of the frequency range

8" drivers for 12" and 15" subs
10" drivers for 18"sub?

then u have to match mid range drivers to ur mid-bass drivers up front so 8" would go 4" - 5.25"
10" would go 4" - 6"

maybe someone else would be able to clarify all this better, but the point i'm trying to get across is trying to cover all frequency ranges
