Is it possible to use the Stock Head Unit but replace the 6 cd stacker with a 6 cd/mp3 stacker so that I can keep the original look but play mp3's and lots of them? If it is possible is it a simple pull out the old stacker whack in an mp3 stacker or is it a job for a car audio installer?

alpine have some mp3 stackers that are a direct fit using the m-bus connection from the hu, 6cd/mp3 units.

I was investigating using a normal mp3 player (like an ipod) and hooking it up into the m-bus connector using an adaptor but in the end just bought a regular headunit.

SOme one on here a while a go did a doco on adding an Aux input to the factory HU. I did this mod and havent looked back. Use a creative microzen, 5gig, and didn't have to touch it on the drive to melb for the all ford day earlier this year. Played 10hrs music no probs on random
Was awesome

Providing that the El head unit has cd controls and being a ghia it should you will need to get the stacker mentioned above and a m-bus to to ai-net adaptor plus an adaptor for the head unit to work an m-bus stacker.
I use the 634 mp3 stacker running off an m-bus head unit and it works well, but you WILL need both adaptors.....

U can make your own adapter, provided you know the right connections from the round pinned to the ford factory sqaure connector. (i have both adaptors, cos have aftermarket alpine stacker)

"plus an adaptor for the head unit to work an m-bus stacker". What is this adaptor, what does it look like? where can i get it? do i need to pull out the head unit to install it?
