I have an EL fairmont and want to put an 8" sub where the factory one should go.

Problem is i've got an 81 litre LPG tank there and the sub is about 1" too deep. The sub in question is a polycone Response thing from jaycar.

Has anyone mounted it and modified the parcel shelf so it fits however I dont want the sub to be seen from outside the car, I'd rather a bulge there and no evidence of a speaker.

Sorry, I should add,

I dont want a box

I dont want the speaker exposed

I dont want any big brand names in view

I want it stealth

I dont want it not stealth

I want to know if a deep speaker can be fitted with a spacer and made to look factory

I dont want to know if you have a big box in the boot with a sub in it

I only want to know if you've fitted an 8" in the factory position in the middle of the rear parcel shelf.

----

Would it be a better idea to get a different shallower speaker that will fit?

mate i dono about ur car but in a eb when u push the rear seats down u get perfect access to the 8" sub (mine came with a factory optioned one)

jl audio sell really good 8" subs (not sure if they work open air)

if they do, they are a bit pricey but probably one of the best 8" subs u can get....

now im assuming the gas tank is in the boot just infront of the sub(looking from bootlid towards gas)

I also have a tank in the boot but I still manage to fit 1x 15" in a custom box, which is removable so i get a bit of a boot back.

i got 2x 10" clarions in boot
no space ... LOL :P

you can buy a ford FACTORY subwoofer spacer for "tickford lpg optioned" vehicles.

so then you can put the sub whilst the tank is in there.

ask ur local parts dealer

hope that helps

if all else fails, just get a 1" thick spacer made up, it'll be very tight under the parcelshelf carpet though

finding devent 8" subs is hard enough these days, even harder trying to find a freeair sub

I have 2 * 8in VIFA Subs in my EB.

I have a 25mm MDF Parcel shelf finished using the *original* parcel shelf carpet. The Shelf is pretty solidly bolted down, and the subs are slightly rebated into the shelf.

Sounds like you would need just a tiny bit more than I did.
Id like to re-do my shelf again soon with just a tiny little more depth.

Instead of using a horrible grille on the sub, Ive just placed a pair of Wires across the speaker over the top to suspend the shelf carpet. Doesnt affect sub performance, and no-one can see its there. Its only coat-hanger wire, and its worked for the past 7 years.

Cheers
