G'day all,
I have an AU Series II with a broken aerial due to some ahole snapping it. Went to the wreckers got another, tested it and yeah it goes up and down. However it does not go fully down as it appears some idiot must have used pliers and there is a slight crush in the shaft. Can these shafts be replaced? Or are people forced to purhchase a brand new one at costly prices? If they can be replaced i.e. aerial shaft only, where is the place to get that piece from. I'm in Brisbane. Cheers |

Take it back to the wreckers and tell them it was broken

you can buy the antenna mast from supercheap repco or ebay for around $20

no, you can get the power antana masts, i replaced the one on my mrs au not to long ago..

I've seen them somewhere, might have been supercheap but they werent $20.00 from memory. What I'd like to know, what is the plastic beads, I assume they wind into something? Since you done yours can you let me know how you done it? Thanks mate |

yea i think they might be a bit more than $20, it was around that figgure..
the white bit at the bottom is a plastic toothed cord, this is fed into the electric base which has a toothed wheel and this is what extends and retracts the antenna mast... |

To fit it, I'm not sure if there is a better way but what I did is have the antenna motor fully up (have it plugged into car, turn head unit on and have aerial at full extension mode). Then you get the plastic teeth/rod and have it sit on the gear. Then when that is done, turn the head unit off then the motor will wind down. At the same time it will pull the antenna rod with it till it reaches the bottom.

You can buy new ones aftermarket through repco or autobarn, $145 from memory. Cheaper than original and it would have a warranty through the store too.

Try a hobby shop, they use threaded end ones for aerials on remote control toys.

But in my experience the new parts often save grief. yes but its not hard to replace the mast and they dont normally stuff up, except if it doesnt get used for long periods of time (mast ceases) or someone has bent it.... |
