Hi everyone
well a month ago i hooked up my new stereo and when i switch the radio on the antenna doesn't pop up. I didnt care cause i mostly listen to cds but i dont mind the radio sometimes so i would like to hook it up. Now the problem is in the manual for the stereo it has a wire which is for the amp remote control and also the antenna. It is hooked to the amp at the moment as thats the important one basically im just wondering if i can hook up both amp and antenna to the one wire on the deck Cheers |

the wire from the aerial to the HU is just the trigger wire, so there's no problem tapping into the remote wire for the amps, although it means the aerial will be up all the time the HU is on, although if you install a switch in the wire to the aerial, you can control it

if the HU has the seperate antenna and remote out you may aswell use them. the antenna should have a wire for constant 12v so it retracts when the ignition is switched off.

ok the HU has one wire which is for both antenna and remote amp control so if i hook up both the amp and antenna it will switch the antenna on everytime the HU is on yes??
Now the car is an ef fairmont and with the stock unit it only came on when the radio was switched on. Its got an antenna switch but that only changes the height so if i want the antenna to come on only when the radio is on, is there a way i can do that? Cheers |

You can only separate the two if the headunit has a separate cable for the antenna (orange on my alpine) or, as someone said before, if you tap into the blue cable for your amps, and put a switch ONLY on the wire that connects to the Antenna.
You will have to flick the switch on when you want reception for your radio |

yeah the factory HU are smart enough to raise the aerial only when you select radio ... selecting tape/cd lows it fully. Unless your HU has such a function I don't think you will be able to do it completely automatically...

if its a newer model kenwood deck they have an aerial control wire, so onl when tuner is selected it pops up. You can run it from the amp remote line or provide it any 12v line through a switch to control its movements.
Happy is right, needs to be a function of the deck to be able to automatically control it with the radio |

Fair enough. The HU i got is worth $1700 you would think they would have a seperate line for antenna and amp.
