Easiest way without f**k around and doing it properly, is get a Ground Loop Isolator, Aepro and that make them - like $15.00. They go in line with the RCA cables, will quieten the volume a tad (so you'll want to adjust the gain up).

check that the speaker cabling isnt running along side power cabling. The electromagnitism from the power cables induces voltage into the speaker cable and creates the noise you speak of.

This would most likely be the cause...yes bad earths will do it but alot of the time its just induced noise from the main power feeds....you may need to look at better shielded signal cables...relocating cables...imprtoving the earth contact or an engine noise supprssor being fitted

nah not necessarily dude just depends on what you buy, where u run the cables (power cable distancing) earths etc...so many variable....and you will 9 times out of 10 find more expensive signal cables will be susceptible to induction then cheaper ones

*would like to add to big kevs statment* also , if you have poor condition rca's then they will induce noise, i ran cheap rca's for years and never had a problem till the shielding near one of the ends got a tear in it then noise galore, so i bought some very high quality dls ultimates and problem gone, but i do think that a poor ground will be causing your problem (its the most common) also you could have lost the ground to your amp, and the amp might have sourced ground thru the rca cables then thru the tiny .5A ground that is on your headunit chassis going between the rca and ground at the hu end, ive seen it happen before
