ok are you ppl asleep ?
if the cables are already ran on opposite sides of the car then good but if as you rev the whiniing gets louder and more high pitched it is the alternater noise what you need to do is buy an alternater suppresser |

The real problem is poor earthing - most likely at the headunit itself, especially if you're relying on the factory provided 'black' wire. Best to run an earth from the HU itself to a better earth point.

Best to run an earth from the HU itself to a better earth point. um... even with a perfect earth you may still get some noise. an alternator should have a supressor on it. chances are that it's stuffed.

Look guys, I haven't been here for a while but thought I'd offer my advice on this one due to my experience.
Nobody here is wrong (although some are farfetched). What other audio communication equipment is hooked up to near enough to the same curcuit? If a UHF or a handsfree phone kit are anywhere near the stereo this will interfere with the sound quality from the head unit. My advice is to wire the stereo straight to the battery and keep all other wiring as far away as possible (or as insulated as possible) for the best possible performance

i brought a ground loop thing which made the noise bearable but then i changed a few things in my setup ... had the headunit out, added some new rca cables and had the boot install out... (my AUs a ex company car) and when i had the cd player out i noticed a few extra cables... followed them to under the carpet of the passenger foot well and found half a nokia hands free kit (so i took it all out) and the noise just stopped... just assumed i moved the right wires but now im fairly sure it was the nokia car kit... hadnt even tought of it...

I might've been wrong about the word fuse, but this happened to a friend of mine in his Pioneer unit. Earthing the ring of the output connectors fixed the problem. Not perfectly, but 98% better. Take a look at the circuit diagram of one. That problem is mostly with Pioneer H/Us. They protect the RCAs with fuses. Dodgy installers (e.g. leaving power on why installing the HU) can cause the fuses to blow. Resulting in the earth on the RCA being no longer connected, this causes induced noise to have no where to go but into your amp. The fuses are internal to the H/U and must be repaired by Pioneer (and it's not warrantable, as it's poor installation that causes it). Thats whats wrong with mine... where is this fuse... i dont feel like being head unit-less for 3 weeks....
