mine does this exactly like u described except it happens intermittently.. changed just about everything you can think of but didnt get rid of it or cant find a pattern on what makes it start/not start
What i figured out on mine is if you put it on ACC for a second before fully turning, it starts every time so i turn the key to ACC long enough to see the fuel/temp gauges flick into position then i start it. sounds silly but starts first time every time this way, ive just made it a habit now.. on the other hand i know people with similar problems and changing the obvious fixed it, guess im just unlucky

Same thing with mine, if i let the gages flick into place it starts like a dream, if not its a really harsh start. I do it every time and no problems!

I've found it you just start cranking before the fuel pump has clicked off, then it starts roughly. Dunno if thats why but i have noticed that with the EB

i'm gonna take a stab at this and say its a fuel pressure issue at startup, i know when my EFI XF had a weep in the high pressure flex lines, the drop in pressure after a couple of hours would be enough to make the engine hard to start unless the fuel pump was left a couple of seconds to build up pressure
most probably its a fuel pressure regulator issue thats letting the pressure bleed off when the fuel pump is switched off

Alaskan: thats amazing i thought mine was a random isolated case..

ive had that looked into, but nothing wrong there there.. the only thing left to rule out is some sort of electrical problem to do with the ignition itself but the time/effort/money to look into it isnt worth the hassle of just turning the key slower in my opinion.. just out of curiosity why is this post in the a/v/comm section?

Sounds like the fuel injectors are leaking down when left sitting.
There must always be fuel pressure maintained in the system. If there is a drop in fuel pressure when left sitting it will not start on first crank until fuel pressure is built up. Fuel pump only operates when engine is in cranking mode or running. Thats why on the second cranking the engine starts and or runs rough. I have delt with this problem numerous times being a technician at ford. Diagnosis procedure requires a fuel pressure gauge to be fitted and monitor for fuel pressure drop by crimping supply and return lines,if there is a fuel pressure drop the problem is the injectors are leaking. |

Quite often the reason for slow starts is two fold. the first reason being fuel pressure build up and the second and not the least is the smartlock or BEM taking time to recognise the ignition signal which is why if the key is turned to acc first it gives the BEM time to recognise the signal coming from the key.

The fuel injectors can be serviced by an injection specialist, which uses an ultra sonic bath and replaces the pintles and seals etc.
They usually come up 100% |
