Is it possible for the factory CD stacker found in an EL ghia to work with an aftermarket headunit? The stacker magazine has 'alpine' printed on it, would it be compatible with that brand? or is the stacker simply too old to work with modern tuners.

I'd be leaning towards the not likely idea. You will need to find out what type of connector & system it uses, then see if there is a head unit that will hook into it.
Pioneer had some stackers that used iirc M bus, from about 10-12 years ago. I've got a 6 year old pioneer cd player that has a m bus socket on the back of it, so it might work if I got my hands on a working stacker, due to the same bus & socket setup. With MP3, usb & so on, why do you really want a stacker these days? Cheers ToranaGuy

So yea, I doubt ill find aything that works. Are there any head units with built in stackers? Its not really for me but more for my dad who is on the old school side of things still. lol |

M bus is a certain manufacturer thing, there is another few major ones, then a few minor floating around out there. Each manufacturer had their own standard. The factory cars are beasts unto their-self too.

having said that it is cheaper and easier to do away with the stacker and purchase a decent mp3 player with usb input for your car imho

Thanks all!
Yea, it seems the stacker is basically too obsolete to care about. I guess iv either got to keep searching for a premo hu or come up in the world and invest in an mp3/usb tuner. Either way im happy as the aux mod works a treat for me |

The stacker will use a proprietary Ford wiring set up.
Just ditch it! First thing I did was to put in a normal single DIN unit with mp3 etc and rip out the stacker. They were a great idea in 1993 when nothing better was available. Tell the old man the world has changed. |

I think i'v just got the message through to him saying that 6 CDs = 1 mp3 disk +more. {USERNAME} wrote: Seems alright. Really good for the price! I was actually looking at this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Sony-XAV-62B ... 20c03d3d30 I'v heard sony arn't the best but this doesn't look too bad. Thoughts? |

Yea that would be right. We had a sony HU from 2002 and it was pretty poor. You would go to press a button and the screen would go blank.
Sony head units tend to be laggy as though. I hope this one isn't. |
