Hey guys.

After my EB EF conversion, i'm currently fitting the factory premo headunit, and i am about to wire in my amp to the rear channels, and my new door speakers to the front channels.

The LF speaker wire colours are orange/light green and orange black
The RF speaker is grey/green and grey black
The LR is pink/green and pink/black
And the RR is blue/red and blue/black.

My question is, which is positve and which is negative???

I can't find it anywhere, not even in the factory manuals!

Thanks guys.

Andrew.

Simple, black is almost always earth/negative.

ive just wired in my 6x9's in the el and i joined the black striped cable from the pioneer wire to the black striped factory wire. i just thought that they matched. the pioneer wire with the black stripe goes to the positive on the speaker. i thought that if you wired the positives to the negatives that you wouldnt get any bass because it would be cancelled out or something but my speakers have bass... whats the go

Yeah i'm still a little confused.

The old stereo in it (installed by previous owner) was using the black stripe in the cars wiring as the positive, and it sounded fine.

Yet every other stereo on the planet uses the black stripe as neg. I also put my multimeter on the wires while the swtereo was playing, and it said the black stripe in the car was positve when running off the factory headunit. ???

That only applies if 1 speaker is wired out of phase, if they are all wired the same then you won't get cancellation.
The easy way to confirm the orientation of the black stripe is to simply use a AA battery (no bigger) and attach it to the speaker wiring in question and the wire attached to the + terminal is the positive wire if the cone moves out, if the cone moves in then the wire attached to the + terminal on the battery then that is the - wire.
Easy.....

Thanks outlaw,

i performed this, and turns out ford indeed used the black stripe as positive wire, why the f**K they did that i'll never know.

Confirmation also came from when i look at the dash tweeter wiring, the ford black stripe wire goes the the positive terminal on the pioneer tweeters.

So anyway, the factory unit is now wired into my new front speakers, and the rear channels are now driving my sub amp and sub, and it sounds good enough for a pretty much factory system.

Thanks guys.

This is my question my car is a ef Fairmont the original plug was removed and the wires joined there are a couple of wires not connected

Dose any one know that all the wires on the ef radio harness do?

The body is negative earth so if you wire them up properly it saves problems i.e. Popping noise when you adjust the volume (that is why I had to redo my radio the colours and positions were all wrong)

When crossing over speaker wires use +left rear and +right rear it kind of combines the sound when using a sub and an amp. Amps are wired up for that inside and will not (should not) blow. Doing this to a head unit might not be a good idea. Sub are normally isolated from the car using foam, plastic bracket or a sub box so there is no earthing

still having problem as the colours of my loom don't match the ones listed above
my car is a 94 ef could it be posible that i have ed loom for the radio???

this is what i have and what is connected

Grey / green = (+) right hand front
Grey/ black = (-) right hand front
Blue / red (1 silver dot) = (+) right hand rear
Blue / black = (-) right hand rear
Orange / green= (+) left hand front
Orange / black = (-) left hand front
Pink / green = (+) Left hand rear
Pink / black = (-) Left hand rear
Red / blue = unknown (connected to power ant I think)
The next 3 wires are thicker then the rest
Green / yellow = Power
Blue / white = Power
Black (2 silver dots) = power
Brown (1 silver dot) = unknown
Light green (2 silver dots) = unknown
Blue / red (2 silver dots) = unknown

There is a 8 pin plug near it too I think it might go to the back there all thin wires like the speaker wire

1 = brown
2 = green / yellow
3 = grey / black
4 = not connected
5 = blue / red
6 = blue / black
7 = red
8 = orange / green

everything appears to be connected but i still nave no dash speakers
