Just wondering if a factory sub (10inch?) from a EB/ED Ghia
can be repaired? It seems to be working fine just that
the outer rubber edge has deteriated over time..

Many thanks in advance..

yeh it's repairable, in melbourne you could see total recoil, id sugest trying to find someone in bris to take a look at it (its an 8" btw  ) you can also have it rebuilt so it can take more power and make it into an even better sub as well, it just depends on how much you wanna spend.

if your cheap like me  theres a mob in qld that sells a repair kit on ebay. it comes with the foam ring, glue and instructions. for some reason the factory sub is 6 ohm and i could only find 4ohm subs. don't know if it makes a difference tho.

As already said, would be cheaper to buy a new 8" sub thats better than factory. Also a 10" can be fitted from underneath with a spacer. Alot less work too with a far better result.

Thanks for the replies guys..I have been told that the subs in these cars were a "free air floating"?
sub..I couldn't find any trace of a rubber ring when I removed the cover from the sub..Does this look ok?

Mine are running well :D...10" Pioneer free-airs...just doesn't hit the low as well and not as clear...but still gives you a nice back massage :D.

My free-air subs have the foam surround. I can see that your subs had them, but they have fallen off over time due to UV ray deterioration. Better off getting another free-air sub (if you can find one) and replace it.

I find this to be NOT TRUE. Jaycar sell a repair kit to fix such a thing for under $20, try buying a new one for that, as i have searched high and low to find a new sub to put in my parcel tray, with no success for under $150, which IMO is not worth the bother.

Saw this on ebay, JL 8" sub. Will be alot better than the factory which is just a standard 8" 4ohm driver. Can also be enclosed if needed.

NOT TRUE?? Took me a whole 10 seconds to find a sub that i included in my last post. Now honestly why spend money on a crappy factory speaker that the cardboard cone is surely not far from also falling apart due to the 10+ years in the sun.

Do you really believe that Ford would spend money on supplying a free air sub! Its just a standard driver that is normally enclosed. In other words its a budget driver hence the cardboard cone. Also if you have noticed on the Premo sound the front 6" drivers have a choke inline to cut out the bass as they just cant handle the lower notes, this is a cheaper option than actually integrating a high pass x over in the HU. All i suggested was a well priced 8" sub that is better than factory that can be enclosed later on.

Exactly, which is why these 2 points are facts,

- The factory sub didnt, and never will provide heart stopping bass
- Neither will any other sub designed to go in an enclosure, hence the disapproval of the sub you posted.

While there may be a 1% increase in quality by fitting your posted sub, it will only be because its new, and the factory sub is not. Tha fact remains it is still not designed for the application, not only resulting in fail, but a waste of $90.71 au
