Will be looking to purchase a new sub in the coming weeks and wondering if anyone can recommend a good quality dual voice coil 12" or 15" sub for under $200? I was looking at Soundstreams and Pioneers. Any thoughts? What are people running?

what amp is it going to be coupled to?

It's being coupled with my 820WRMS Response Monblock. It does 400WRMS at 4ohms, 700WRMS at 2ohms and 820WRMS at 1ohm which is the reason I want a dual voice coil; so I can run it at 700WRMS. I was looking at Alpine type R's... In fact, a 2+2ohm 15" Type R just sold for $200 on eBay im my state. It's just, something about them looks boring... I know it's only a cosmetic thing but I'm fussy as all hell. What about JBL?

my mate has that 15" black JBL with the 2 voice coils and that pumps pretty hard for a $150 sub, with the spare $50 u can get a box for it.

mate got his from strathfields

Yeh I've already got a custom built box and a sub all custom mounted in my boot (check out my progress thread) All is to to replace the single voice coil 12" that's in there at the moment with a dual voice coil. I can easily modify my setup to fit a 15".
I saw that JBL 15" on sale at Strathfields. Will have a look at that for sure.

I'm still tossing up on whether I should just spend the $150ish more and get a real good Soundstream or something... Are $300-$350 subs really worth the money? I know you can spend thousands on subs but IMO that's ridiculous...

But Type R's are still pricey. How good are they?

Type-R's aren't that good... I'd look at the cheaper JL Audio models, but i'm not sure if they're DVC, you'll have to check.

As for expensive subs, once you've heard the difference, you'd understand why people spent that much :)

Thats' what I thought. A mate of mine had a full Type R system all done properly and I wasn't overly impressed with it for the thousands of dollars he payed. I'll have a look at the JL Audios... What about MTX or JBL?

Oh yeh... and are anyone running Kicker's? Namely the Solarbarics? I'd love to know if they go any good. Would love to have one...
